Here's a 1971 Christmas stamp with a nifty Moiré pattern featured. Brazilian definitives are very common in random mixes but I don't see commemoratives newer than about 1967 too often. This is one I don't remember ever seeing before. Ryan

I was tempted to start a new thematic thread on Food & Beverage and post this stamp to it, but was too lazy. So here it is under Brazil. Brazil 1938 issue showing bags of Brazilian coffee. Scott #452. The frame is engraved and the center is typography. This stamp was helpful in learning to distinguish the two types of printing, which I still have trouble with. What else did I learn from this stamp? Well, I never knew that "Londres" is the French, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan and Filipino language name for London. Thanks Wikipedia.

I was tempted to start a new thematic thread on Food & Beverage and post this stamp to it, but was too lazy. Personally, I think you did the right thing Jen. The stamp is under its native location. Members can always defer to "Link Typing" to be able to search the database. Post your scan, as this under Brazil. In your commentary just type "Thematic: Food and Beverage" There, you have it listed. If you have a swag of Food and beverage stamps, (and a strong interest) then yes, start a new Thread. Nice stamp.

Seems Photobucket went one further and blurred all the old images. Anyway, Brazil was one of my earliest collections and a favorite except maybe for the 12 or so identical definitive series with different watermarks The Bulls Eyes "Olhos de Boi". They are generally considered to be in 3 stages of printing, early, mid and late based on quality and of course CV but that is not clearly determined. Late Impression Early Impression Late Impression Lots of forgeries with these and probably my favorites are the decent Giovani Patroni creations In 1875 he got 2 years in US State prison for counterfeiting Most interesting was the primary expert who testified against him - J.W.Scott (yes, that Scott) who himself produced many forgeries.

lucmarphil, I've replaced 34 of rod222's blurred photobucket images in this thread. Should you (or other members) come across others, please send me a link to the thread(s) by PM so I can fix them as my time permits.

A couple new acquisitions: two air mail letters from Rio de Janeiro to Geneva, 1950 and 1951, both canceled at the same Copacabana post office. Nothing familiar to me here--Brazilians stamps of the era are too numerous to comprehend--but it looks like the trans-Atlantic air mail rate declined between the first and second. No surprise; it was happening everywhere then. Or might the culprit be Brazilian inflation?
Also intriguing are the Brazilian log numbers. I didn't know anyone still did that, as late as the mid-Twentieth Century. Very officious.

I was actually just making a correction on that page when I had a look at the chat. So I figured I ought to post on it. At bottom right on this page you can see the 3 stamps in order of type. That is what I decided a few months ago when I was expanding early Brazil pages by adding types. There are numerous differences in the border and filigree. You may find even more in the face. Eyes, mouth headgear, alignment of head in oval and others. Scan could be better but probably just good enough for general comparison, can rescan if you like. Also another page I recently made that combines all the early coms on one page. One thing I plan to do in the future is make 600dpi scans of most early TYPES as well as particularly beautiful stamps from any era. Brazil is one of my favorites and most collectors should find my showing a good reference . Regular issues: mitch.seymourfamily.com/mward/collection/samerica/brazil/brazil.htmlB.O.B.: mitch.seymourfamily.com/mward/collection/samerica/brazil/brazil2.htmlI've been very busy lately on several different countries making pages to add early types. In the process uncramping the 19th century pages to allow a more respectful viewing of the early classics. I just got done making pages for French early Ceres and Napoleon. Previously I just had them in 2 black stocksheets. mitch.seymourfamily.com/mward/collection/europe/france/france.htmlAlso just added many new spaces with stamps for early Romania mitch.seymourfamily.com/mward/collection/europe/romania/romania.htmlNow I need to figure out what I was doing before I got sidetracked...........

ausbrasilien, I don't think the member who posted the above page of stamps has been active since 2015 but I appreciate your post regardless as I collect Brazilian stamps myself and might try to obtain a copy of the RHM Catalogue.
