What I collect: Postboxes, French & UK Stamps

Hi
Thank you for letting me join.
My name is Alex I'm Irish but I live part of the time in the UK and part of the time in France. A few years ago I bought a Royal Mail tinback postbox and then a few wagon tops, a couple of wallboxes and two pillar boxes. Then some La Poste French postboxes, a box from the USPS, a tinback from An Poste and more recently a box from Correos Espana. As I guess a result of collecting postboxes I have become interested in collecting stamps.
I collect what others might think of as junk. I mainly collect stamps that are reasonably modern, used and cheap. I catalogue them on colnect and file them under the country and year. I actively collect French and GB stamps, by that I mean I try and buy the new issues as they go on sale from both La Poste and Royal Mail. However also buy bags of kiloware that are mixed from any country and try and file them. So far I have a collection of about 15 thousand stamps but they are as I said mainly just cheap stuff,
I have been listening to the Stamp show here today podcast and watching exploring stamps on YouTube but I really don't know much more than the basics. I have also a small collection of postcards and covers.
That's me really.
Alex

Greetings, Alex ( alexcandy) and welcome to TSF! I recall that you were a member here several years ago, when you started a thread about collectible postboxes here: thestampforum.boards.net/thread/4996/post-boxesIt's still an active thread, which is nice. I also know you a little from your posts in the Letter Box Study Group chat emails, where I am also a member, although not a very knowledgeable or active one! One of the things that I loved about living in the UK (2019-2022) was scouting out the interesting postboxes. I miss that here in California. Anyway, welcome back to TSF! I am looking forward to seeing some posts of your stamps and perhaps some postboxes, too! -Chris Back in California after 5 years in Europe

Welcome to The Stamp Forum Alex (alexcandy). Eclectic is good, I'm really looking forward to seeing your collection of Post Boxes. As you probably already know, fellow TSF member Beryllium Guy is a huge fan of Post Boxes and has written some wonderful articles about them during his travels in Europe and Great Britain. Rob

Welcome Alex!
You might notice everyone has an avatar of their choosing. I liked the blue Austrian letter box I used to mail postcards back home around 25 years ago visiting that beautiful country. So I used the photo I took as <Y avatar.
These days with most any SmartPhone it issue much easier to take pictures of almost anything stamp-related!

to TSF! We're happy to have you with us. Indeed, we love our post boxes too, not just the stamps they protect on the way to their destination.

Welcome! Today’s “junk” and “cheap stuff” are tomorrow’s hard to find treasures. Collecting modern stamps is a missed opportunity and it’s all good stuff in my opinion.
