Hi all, Thanks for accepting me. UK-based lady that started collecting in 2018 then took a long hiatus but I'm back now! I specialise in African colony stamps and immediate post-independance stamps. Colonial-wise, the Belgian Congo is my absolute fave (not for the atrocious things that happened but for the stamp's beauty); post-colonial, I love Zambia! I've never used a Stanely Gibbons catalogue but use the stampworld.com catalogue to track my collections. I've also recently started selling my duplicates and unwanted stamps on eBay which I've got a bit addicted too. eBay is also where I buy my stamps. I've joined the forum for two main purposes: 1. To help identify unusual and potentially fake stamps and overprints (I've been using stampforgeris.com up until now and I REALLY want to get some nice copies of Album Weeds now haha). Currently I have some stamps from Liberia which are absolutely dumbfounding me so will post about these. 2. To trade stamps! Would love to find people to trade with but I have to post 50 times first so this may take awhile. Thanks for reading

Welcome to the Forum!
AGood way to get to the 50 post mark is to ask questions and greet new members as well. Show us your favourite stamps or samples of your collection. Add your thoughts to any post. The 50 mark will happen quicker than you think.

Welcome from another UK member @susnshinerai! I also collect Belgian Congo (as my main interest is Belgium, having been born there) - feel free to post any questions on here - we love to help and learn!

Hi sunshinerai , only another 47 post and you will make the Magic 50. Not sure what you mean by sign 0016 . Where did that appear? By there is a tutorial on how to post an image , do find it and read it. The first time is difficult but easier with practice

Thank you very much for all the friendly replies! Although not sure what on earth the “sign 0016” thing means?? Greetings, sunshinerai , and welcome to TSF! To answer your question, please see a TSF website snip below. If you open the menu for emoticons and hover your cursor over one, you will see that each one has an underlying text name. "sign 0016" (without the space) = Welcome = Most of the time, when a member inserts one of these emoticons into a message, the image will display, but on some occasions, the text is displayed instead of the image. I am not exactly sure why this happens, but I notice it most often when I am having some sort of issue with my internet connection. Hope this helps, and welcome again to The Forum! -Chris

Hello sunshinerai , I have just gone through a large accumulation of African stamps (mostly post-independence) and I agree with you about Zambia. They do put out some very likeable stamps. At this point, though, I mostly look for postmarks from towns throughout the continent. Anyway, jump right in with any questions. The level of discourse here is indeed quite friendly, and no matter what the question, the chances of somebody here knowing something about it are remarkably high. And I'm really impressed by the way you made a verb out of "amateur". Wordplay is a wonderful thing!

This makes sense. I do all my posting on my phone so I don’t have that many options. That’s probably why I haven’t got the emojis

Welcome to the forum, Sunshinerai! I am also from the UK - Northern Ireland to be precise. I love those colonial stamps - I have several in an album I used when I first started collecting stamps in my childhood in the late 50s, early 60s. I also have my late husband's album from the same era. Several stamps from that era have also been turning up in a packet of stamps I received as a Christmas gift.

Hello sunshinerai - a belated welcome from me too - am sure you'll enjoy your time here. Am sure I have some African material that might be of interest for swapping - shout when you get to that opportunity.
