Hello all, new member from West Yorkshire, UK. After a gap of 50 years, inspired by impending retirement and recent passing of my father, I have recently started collecting again. My father introduced me to collecting in the early 1970's, although his passion was for Cyprus stamps (ex services and we lived there for 4 years). My interest is GB up to decimalisation (1970), although I may pick up on the Cyprus collection later, which is now mine. I have quite a number of 1d reds, a bunch of penny stars that need scrutiny, including a run of plated reds from 71 onwards (not plate 77 unfortunately), just missing 219 & 225 at the moment. Also trying to complete the 1/2d set as well.
Fordy.

Hello fordy and welcome to The Stamp Forum. We have closely similar interests and I greatly look forward to seeing some examples from your collection. I collect all of the Line Engraved issues with emphasis on the imperfs from penny black SG1 through the two penny blue SG17, every plate with the letters RL (my initials). I've limited the SG8 to those with alphabet one which makes for a total of 145 stamps. So far I've assembled 67 different plates with lots of duplication (which is very useful for plating). This is the most challenging collection I've ever attempted. As I'm sure you're familiar, you reach a point where you have just about all of the available material out there (typically the low hanging fruit) and obtaining the remaining plates becomes the challenge of either availability or price. I don't collect any of the surface printed issues but have the rest of Great Britain up to pre-decimal QEII. I've also started a specialized postal history of 'mixed Reign' covers from the Commonwealth. See you on the Forum. Rob
