Hi All,
I ran across the forum while doing an image search to identify a stamp.
I've been collecting off and on since I was a kid. I'm now in my 70's. Mostly U.S. stamps. I gave up collecting World Wide as it seemed too ambitious.
While at a local stamp club meeting a member gave me a few pages of Chile stamps. I looked around a bit and bought the Steiner albums. I was thinking I could then create my own area of interest.
Chile was where I started. Then after buying a few South American collections I moved on to Argentina, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Cuba and El Salvador.
I still continue with U.S. stamps. Choosing areas of interest. I'm most proud of my complete collection of Transportations. Including all of the (major) variations.
Regards to everyone,
PaulC

Hello Paul C - welcome. So ........... by the sound of it you're back to collecting WW ;-);-). It's very difficult to decide what not to collect - agree, WW can be a nightmare, though a lot of folk start that way and then it dawns on us that it's virtually impossible. Hope you enjoy your time here, these guys really are experts and very helpful too.

Welcome! "Completeness" of a philatelic collection is highly debatable. It's all about the parameters and the perimeter/frame of reference you set when you define your collection, and how exactly you define its completeness. If your "transportations" collection is open to any country, then I doubt that it is complete (from scientific, semantic and philosophic perspectives). How about personalized stamps, which are VALID for postage? Let's say one from Austria. You say "it's not in the catalog"? Oh, but it is, in that case. Even if a "transportation" personalized stamp is from USA, and the Scott Catalog did not have the resources to embark in cataloguing them...remember: it is valid for postage, per USPS. Moreover, maybe such a personalized stamp has even seen postal use, being really circulated by mail! I don't remember designing "transportations" personalized stamps, among my 160+ designs (mostly animal species). But google this, or ask your new chatbot: "Peter C. Elias personalized stamps Audi". Or just scroll down here to see automobiles and motorcycles on personalized stamps: photostamps.webs.com/Personalized stamp with Audi, for example. [Samuel L. Jackson:] "What's in YOUR [complete collection]?". 😉

Welcome to TSF, paulc! Thanks for your intro. If you don’t mind saying, where in California are you? I am in Ontario, in Southern California, but I lived in the SF Bay Area for 15 years at one point. Anyway, just curious…. See you around the boards! -Chris
