Mauritius, July 11 1956, Mixed Reign cover. From Curepipe, Mauritius to Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.
I have no idea what rate this cover represents, it has two dollars in franking. I suspect it’s just an interesting philatelic cover.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Although he was sadly gone it appears George VI just had to get his 2 cents worth in. |

Hi, Rob ( REL1948 ): First of all, I am really enjoying this new thread. It’s an interesting area that I had not considered before. Bravo! Swiss postmarks: -1.VII.53 = 01-Jul-1953 The Roman numeral is for the month. The number after the year is most likely time of day: 16 = 4pm Hope this helps! |

Rob look at he position of the 5 handstamps, I suggest from their position on the flap joins they are intended as "Seals" which if disturbed could indicate pilfering. Similarly with the one above from Dominica!

my contribution to this tittle-tattle on past sovereigns of mixed reigns,on one cover, is ....................... these three - George V, Edward VIII and George VI, aren't in fact all tied specifically to the post mark of 1937 - in fact George V died in 1936, the same year that Edward abdicated, and finally his brother's coronation was the following year in '37. As everyone knows, Edward abdicated for the reason that the British Government refused to acknowledge his mistress Wallis Simpson as potential Queen Consort/Queen, which meant that his brother George was forced into accepting the crown, though it seems he would rather not have had the job. He lacked confidence it seems for exceptional high office, and a film was made in recent years with explicit detail of how he coped with his stuttering - I think his coronation was in fact on 12th May '37.  |

The profile sequence applied to coins but not to stamps paul1. All monarchs from Victoria on the Penny black to the new King Charles definitives have resolutely looked inwards on the envelope ……no alternating sequence here. |

this rather scruffy and slightly damaged cover shows the late QE II with her father, uncle and mother - the wording reads 'V.R. - PENNY POSTAGE JUBILEE - 1840 - 1890 ... 21 JY 66 ... GUILDHALL' - the Guildhall (in London) is an important venue where dignitories, mayoral and other civic ceremonies relating to the City are located. It seems that although a plan for a commemorative stamp was initiated, it was later abandoned, and I couldn't see anything looking through my QE II commemoratives around 1966 Am sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but the reference to 'Jubilee 1890', seems to refer to the celebrations in 1890 - (50 years from 1840) - of the introduction of the 'Penny Post' - the word Jubilee slightly confusing since I think there have been a couple of instances of the word being used - in the C20 - for marriage jubilees? The most recent stamp here is the Wilding penny design from 1952 - nothing that I can see relates it to '66 - maybe the cancellation here was just that - it was only ever a evocative cancellation and reminder of the 1890 and 1840 events. So rather a miscellanious group of stamps, but why in particular 1966??  |

Hi Rob, thanks - agree, it's 1936 that is the common denominator here - George V died, Edward VIII both acceded and abdicated, and George VI also acceded to the throne. Oddly, the sepia picture of Edward VIII looks different to the usual image we see - must have been a picture taken at a younger age. You have some nice covers and stamps, well done.

An interesting cover in several ways, it has mixed reigns (3 different) and was sent in March (?) of 1937 from Rabat, Morrocco to a Monsieur NOEL in Chambery, France.
At some point, the destination changed from Chambery to nearby Haute Savoie.
I have several mixed reigns covers that I would describe as ‘philatelic’, having neatly arranged stamps in corresponding denominations and colors etc.
This one strikes me as genuine postage, an uncommon cover in any event.

A very nice cover indeed. The new destination seems to be the village of Les Houches, so indeed in the neighbouring département of Haute-Savoie (#74), while Chambéry is in Savoie (#73) proper. Les Houches is now famous for its convention center where a series of high-level physics conferences is regularly held. |

Rob, That's a very nice cover. I believe the date of posting is the 27th July 1937, shown as 27 JY/37 on a British Post Office RABAT handstamp applied rather indistinctly 5 times to the cover. The reverse shows that it was received in Chambery on 2nd August (bottom left of the reverse of the cover) and in Les Houches/ Haute-Savoie on 3rd August 1937. Daniel |
