This is probably not news to many of you, but I was surprised to learn recently that the National Park Service sells stamps at some of its gift shops. A relative bought me a 3¢ Alamo commemorative stamp at the Park Service's gift shop at Mission San José in San Antonio. Does anyone know of other NPS locations that sell stamps?

When I was in Yellowstone a few years ago they sold stamps. Not sure if they still do.

Thanks for your post, waynel. I can also recall seeing old postage stamps for sale at a National Park shop, but I can't recall if it was Grand Canyon or Joshua Tree or another one.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer here or rain on anyone's parade, but $2.99 seems a bit....excessive...of a price to me.
But it is nicely centered stamp. And the Park Service declares it is genuine....so there is that.
And the packaging is nice.
I'm trying folks to find the other 2 bucks....oh...and I did NOT see that it came with its own easel to place your little collectible on.
Pretty cool actually. Heck, I'd have probably bought one knowing it came with that easel. brookbam

With shipping, getting a stamp would cost almost the same from fleaBay. Is the stamp, itself, worth $2.99? No. But I think if most of the cost as the price of convenience. The supermarket charges $1.29 for a 5¢ green pepper.

Overpriced? Sure...but it's a souvenir sold in a shop (and probably one of the cheapest in the shop). The missions as a whole probably don't receive as much tourism as San Antonio de Valero (pictured on the stamp and better known as the Alamo...remember that!); I believe there are a total of 5 in the city. Of course, the original Spanish mission was located several hundred miles away (Mission San Francisco de los Tejas) and is just a few miles from my house. It was abandoned in favor of San Antonio.
