My question pertains to Scott 58. King Carlos, 1882 - 1887 series. 5 reis value.
Both my examples are Perf 12.5. Black. Both appear to have a lt red (or pink) horizontal overprint across the bottom of the cliche oval. Don't see any mention in Scott, Scott Specialized, or SG re an overprint.
Also, one of my examples (plain surface paper) appears to be postmarked "Ponta Delgarda, 9.2.1888". Was this a typical use of the 1882 - 87 series? Am asking because Scott says stamps of PD were superseded by Azores issues (after 1905?). In turn, the Azores issues were replaced by stamps of Portugal in 1931.
Thanks in advance.
