I recently joined the Kent Philatelic Society and was asked to revamp the club's existing Facebook page and start giving the club more exposure, something I am happy to do and already have experience doing as I run my own philatelic Facebook pages. The Kent Philatelic Society, was established in 1949, and is here to serve the stamp collectors of West Michigan. Whether you are new to the hobby or an advanced collector, you are welcome to visit or join our club. We currently meet monthly, on the 4th Tuesday of the month and club meetings take place currently at the Byron Center Baptist Church, 7343 Byron Center Ave. SW, Byron Center, MI. The Kent Philatelic Society hosts several shows throughout the year, all of which involve a bourse component and at least one of the events will include a show component. Bourses and shows take place at American Legion Post 179 Neal E. Fonger, 2327 Wilson Ave SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49534 and generally take place on a Saturday or a Saturday and Sunday. I hope you will take the time to visit, follow and like our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Kent.Philatelic.SocietyAlso take a look at our most recent newsletter which gives our monthly program schedule which includes presentation and auctions at our club meetings. Also, check out the "Every Stamp Tells a Story" article on page 2. For more monthly newsletters and an annual schedule of events there is an events page and newsletter archive at the Kent Philatelic Society's webpage here: kentphilatelicsociety.com

This month's newsletter was just received and is uploaded below. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, June 25 at the Byron Center Baptist Church in Byron Center, MI. If you are in the area and want to drop by, you are welcome to do so. Lot viewing of the floor auction starts at 6:30pm. Additionally, yours truly, Darkormex (Darrin Lettinga) will be doing a presentation. The presentation only tangentially touches on Japanese postal history. It is more accurate to say it is social philately focusing on a postcard I purchased for my collection.

Club and Board member, Louis Morel, put together his monthly Every Stamp Tells a Story piece again and sent it along with the club's newsletter. Louis always seems to be able to find a niche topic to focus on and somehow finds stamps to fit. Here he discusses the upcoming outdoor grilling season. I hope you will read this entertaining piece.

As we continue to celebrate our 75th Anniversary year, our past-president, Bill, has been instrumental in putting together a mini-bourse and summer social for our members and collectors who regularly attend our shows. This event is open to everyone and, if you are a member of this forum and in Michigan or nearby, I encourage you to come and spend some time with us. Registration is required by calling or emailing Bill as below.

The latest issue of the KPS Philatelist is hot off the press and arrived in my mailbox last night. Check out our upcoming program schedule as we have a busy couple of months coming up including KPS Club Meetings on September 24 and October 22 and, of course, our annual Stamp Exhibition & Dealer Bourse (Kentpex) from Saturday, October 26 to Sunday, October 27, 10am to 4pm and 10am to 3pm respectively. This month's club meeting features a dealer auction by Chris Daly of Grand Rapids Stamps. Items Chris will have for auction will be posted later this week Thursday so keep your eyes on this page for more information.
