Been collecting for 30+ years - stamps, covers, postal history, post cards, paper ephemera just to mention a few. Obviously a dilettante, but we all find fun where and how we can. Recently had fun reading a book on this odd collecting compulsion, called “Collections of Nothing.” You may enjoy it as well!

Hi. You didn't mean to say "dilettante" as if it was a bad thing, did you? It's an excellent thing in my opinion. "Collections of Norhing.” With a title like that, I had to look it up. W. D. King, University of Chicago Press, 2008, huh? I was delighted to find it in the Connecticut statewide library catalog. Anyway, welcome to TSF. I think you'll like it here.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Hi dpo - a big welcome to you from the U.K. I too wouldn't have thought "collecting for 30+ years" was the work of a dilettante - sounds like you're a substantial hobbyist:-)

Welcome to the Firum! Thanks for the book suggestion. I was able to borrow an audio copy from my library. David Ottawa, Canada I had no idea there was an audiobook! Cool. Now the book is a bit heavy on psycho-self-analysis, but spot on in some ways, and in any rate a lot of fun. Makes us “philatelists” seem normal!

I have yet to start listening. I was amazed there was even an audio copy in my library. I checked it out immediately as it was not all ready on loan. David
