Yesterday, to facilitate the upcoming auction for the Stamp Out War project, I registerd using the project's email (stampoutwar@gmail.com) an eBay account. But shortly after it was created, it was suspended permantly with the following message from eBay:
I complained:
And this is the reply they sent to me a moment ago:
Basically, they just don't want to tell me what was wrong with what I had been doing (namely changing the country from Taiwan to Canada), and they maintain that this decision -- however absurd it appears -- is final. As a non-orator who has been terribly traumatised in her youth for her speaking inability, I will never call eBay to argue with them on the phone. (Someone I know did that to ask eBay taking into account the existence of small business owners in Quebec who don't need to collect sales tax. For 2 hours the arguments just went into loop.)
So what do I do now with my Ukraine support maxicards?
Has anyone had similar issue with registering an eBay account (before purchasing / selling anything on the platform)? If I register using a 'normal-looking' personal email address that doesn't incorporate the word 'war', will it work?
I do have an old eBay account created in 2007 where I buy and sell items, but I should like to have a dediated account for this project, so that visitors don't get confused when seeing a large selection of non-philatelic items.
Hello stampoutwar,
We wanted to let you know that your eBay account has been permanently suspended because of activity that we believe was putting the eBay community at risk. We understand that this must be frustrating, but this decision was not made lightly and it’s important that we keep our marketplace safe for everyone. Learn more about how and why accounts can be suspended.
Here’s what you need to know
You will no longer be able to use your account to buy or sell items and any new accounts you set up may also be suspended.Any listings have been removed and they can be viewed below. We’ve credited all associated fees except for the final value fee for your listings.Any outstanding selling fees are due and will be charged to your payment method on file. If you’ve already opened any dispute claims for these fees, they won’t be charged until the claims have been resolved.

I complained:
I am the organiser of the Stamp Out War project (https: www.stampoutwar.com/) that aims at auctionning a unique collection of postcards to raise funds for Ukraine.
Shortly after I have registered an eBay account using the project s email address for the upcoming auciton, I received a message from eBay telling me that this eBay account has been permanently suspended because of 'activity that we believe was putting the eBay community at risk'. It didn't offer a clear explanation why this decision should have been taken before I do anything with this account (I haven't even listed anything yet).
The only thing I had done with this account was trying to correct a wrong personal information: for reason unknown, this account's country was listed as Taiwan, but I am based in Canada, and the items will be shipped from my home address in Montreal. I tried a few times to correct this information without success; the system wouldn't let me change it.
Also, I didn't used my legal name in creating this account. This is because I deem this project a collectif, I wasn't sure if I alone should be given the honour of being named. But this is really something up for discussion, you could have simply communicated with me about this details instead of suspending this account.
Thus, I believe your decision was unjust, and demand a review for this account to be reinstated.
Yours sincerely,
Linda (my legal name)

Hello,
Thank you for writing on eBay regarding with your account status. Upon reviewing your account, we have decided not to remove the suspension. It shows that the account may post a risk to our community. Due to this, the account will remain suspended permanently. Please be aware that we do not make decisions like this lightly, so we have spent some time reviewing your case.
Building a trusted marketplace is our first priority. As such, we suspend any account that poses a risk to that trust. Your account has been suspended because the pattern of activities we have witnessed present a risk to our eBay community.
As previously mentioned, this suspension is permanent. You will not be able to participate in any buying or selling activities on eBay. In addition, any other accounts you own, or that are associated with this account, will also be suspended. As much as I would like to provide you the specific reason, I am afraid that we do not give this to our members as we do not want our policy to be circumvented or manipulated by any one.
While we know this is not the response you wished to receive, there is no further opportunity for appeal on this decision.
Kind Regards,
xxx
