Many Christmas seals / Tuberculosis seals have been copied, it is fun to find them. One extraordinary coincidence is one matching a Postcard I have, drawn by Alice Bullen called "Coaching" see what you think...

Ryan chortled : "Philippines (yeesh, it needs a bath)"
Ryan, may I suggest having soaked half the planet's stamps, this has already had a bath, the detritus you see, is what remains often after bulk soaking, little shards of paper adhere in the drying book. You can lift that off with pointy tongs.
BTW, Great scans of those.

Ryan, may I suggest having soaked half the planet's stamps, this has already had a bath May well be true, but not by me! All these seals are in the second tier for me, more important stuff is on the go (just finished working my way through the 2 packs of 1000 Greenland, now working on about 600g of off-paper Iceland). I am not only a bulk soaker but also a bulk snipper. Everything on paper gets trimmed before soaking, I find this is the best way to avoid the fuzzy bits that are always coming loose and sticking to stamps in the washing process. Thankfully I have some of those scissors with the auto-sharpening storage sleeve, who knows how many pairs of scissors I would have gone through by now otherwise. It also cuts down on the amount of soggy paper that needs to be dealt with, fortunately Calgary is a dry climate and not prone to spontaneous generation of crawly / smelly things wherever anything wet is to be found, but it's still best to reduce the size of the pile of soggy stuff in my garbage can... Oh to be a fly on the wall, at your place.
I started to throw the gum wash on the back lawn, the grass loved the mucilage, but had to stop, I had all these little stamp hinges blowing around when everything dried. I have about 1000 Czechoslovakia due out of the stamp press in a week.

Mexico, took the idea of the TB Seal, and blew everyone else away with their huge topical landscapes. Mexico's COMITÉ NACIONAL DE LUCHA CONTRA LA TUBERCULOSIS (National Committee Against Tuberculosis) was established by decree in late 1939 and the committee issued its first TB seal in 1943. The topic for each year's seals varies and may be viewed here. These two seals are from the 1998 "Mexico Lottery" sheet.

I've always found the image on this 1988 Dutch seal a little odd. The jet flying between winter and summer scenes. Maybe someone here can explain it to me.

I read rod22's list of TB issuing countries that he posted back in October, and noticed one country missing.
In 1974, Vietnam issued their one and only TB seal (Vietnam Anti-Tuberculosis Association, VATA). Here is a se-tenant block of 4....

It fascinates me where people get their information from How did you find that out Terry? Great info, and absent from my Vietnam collection.

Rod...
Actually many years ago, when I was collecting French Indochina, I wrote to the Vietnam Society to see if/when they had issued any TB seals. He wrote back and assured me that this 1974 issue was the only TB seal that the society had ever generated. Unfortunately, he did not have any further information, i.e. designer, printer, quantity issued, etc.
Additionally, I have information about TB seals that were issued much, much earlier (early 1930's) by another TB society in Cochin China (southern Vietnam around Saigon). The seals were the same designs as the French TB seals with very minor differences. I will dig up that information and share if you are interested.
Cheers,

Well, yes please Terry, I would be interested, esp as it deals with original French set. I have information on similar "copying" by Brazil? I think.
I don't imagine it was plagiarism, rather a WW collective to fight the terrible disease.

Well, Rod....
Since Cochin China was included in French Indochina, It was the French National Committee that extended the TB seals to their fledgling colonies. So, I am sure there was no plagiarism involved
The file I have is 4 pages in .PDF format. It is 2.5 mB in size, but I can place the link here & you can all download at your convenience. This was part of the catalog that I was working on back between the years 2000 and 2003. Hope you find useful.

For over 100 years, the American Lung Association has led the fight for healthy lungs and healthy air. America's oldest voluntary health organization, founded in 1904 as the National Association for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis– dedicated to combating tuberculosis (TB), the most dreaded disease of the time. By 1954, tuberculosis was largely controlled in the U.S. ALA is the leading organization working to save lives, improve lung health and prevent lung disease. The American Lung Association is "Fighting for Air" through research, education and advocacy. Christmas Seals® In 1907 we launched the Christmas Seals® Campaign that has become an enduring symbol of the power of volunteers to fight illness. Emily Bissell created the first Christmas Seals in 1907 to raise money for a small TB sanatorium, and led the growing effort for many years. In 1980, Bissell herself was honored with a U.S. postage stamp that hailed her as a public health pioneer. The American Lung Association was among the first to tackle smoking as the nation's greatest preventable health risk, and to make the connection between air pollution and lung disease. Landmark victories included The Clean Air Act, banning smoking on airplanes, and passage of the bill which gave the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authority over the marketing, sale and manufacturing of tobacco products to stop tobacco companies from preying on children and deceiving the American public. A joined pair from my collection............1980

In 1974 the US (ALA) released a 100 sheet panel with 4 designs. I have a minuscule strip of 4 (I'm missing the Christmas Tree and The Sled which would have been on the line above or below)

One here from Australia 1982 showing Dr Robert Koch - Centenary of the Discovery of the Tubercle Bacillus, 1882 Robert Koch's discovery of the tubercle bacillus in 1882 was a major event in the history of medicine, a turning point in our understanding and conquest of that deadly disease which had plagued mankind for millenia. After centuries of speculation as to the possible infectious nature of tuberculosis, Koch proved conclusively that the cause of the disease was infection by a specific micro-organism which he isolated. In tuberculosis, both seed and soil play their part, but without the seed — the tubercle bacillus — there is no disease.

A large vista of 1956 Tuberculosis Seals : This brings back memories. Some years ago a friend who was a local stamp and coin dealer called me and asked if I was interested in a dealer stock of worldwide christmas seals. I drove to his store to take a look and bought the whole lot. It was around 25 cartons of material. It turns out it was part of the estate of dealer Henry Evanson who operated under several business names over the years, including Spruceland, Springfield, and also Tatham. Much of the lot was paper trash (There were reams of his old custom printed album pages, but there were several pages missing and they were all discolored having been printed on sub-standard paper. Those all went into the recycling bin). Somewhere I have a box with many approval sheets like this one, for various years and various countries.
