I read the parts that I am interested in, which often, isn't a whole lot. The latest issue was a breath of fresh air because it wasn't all about the same U.S. stamps as usual. Believe it or not. American collectors do collect more than American stamps.

My reason for posting was thinking if enough read, we could pick an article out of an issue to discuss in more detail, I would have to check with Steve if as an APS affiliate we could post articles more fully. Of course it could apply to any magazine.

Interesting idea, Al ( angore). My approach is similar to Cephus. I look through each issue page by page, but I only read the articles that interest me. Also, I sometimes set issues aside and then read them a bit later, taking them with me on travel, for example. In the end, I do go through each issue to see what’s in there, even if I don’t read every article thoroughly. I think your idea of discussing articles is a good one, in general. I don’t know if posting all the content will be possible, though, which is why I agree that we should talk to Steve once he is back from travel. Thanks for your suggestion, Al.

I do usually read the letters to the editor and the articles from the staff and etc. I glance at the new members section and check the deceased list. (I guess just checking to make sure I am not on that list <Grin>). I do look through the back part of the magazines at dealers who put up advertisements. I also look at the country they show in the very back. But I must admit, for the most part the big articles are usually of no interest to me. I do pass my copy along to a budding collector. I offered my copy to my local Library, and they were totally not interested. I feel like it is their loss. Nick

I was going through the newest issue today, since I got it yesterday. Am I nuts, or is a lot of it just self-congratulatory and self-marketing? This one was a lot of "come to GASS!" stuff, plus some meaningless awards. April is the annual "give us money!" issue. How about you just talk about stamps?

I'm not a member of the APS so can't take part in this poll. I had a quick look at the sample edition on their website and would guess that 90% of the magazine content was about USA stamps which reflects an opinion already made above.
I'm sure that this forum is more international than it was when I first joined so it might be of interest for a future poll to ask who here is a member of the APS?

I had thought the poll would also indirectly help identify APS member total. So far, only 11 have responded and if you asked directly I am not sure if many more would respond.
This forum is an APS Affiliate,

Hi
I read all the articles. I learn a lot from other areas of stamp collecting. Unfortunately there is very little, no articles, concerning South American countries. If I knew more than I do I would write something.

Discussing an articles could be quite interesting, Al. angore Nice idea! I only read the articles that pertain to areas that I collect or philately in general, but I skim through the rest.

Sure, I read it, but without great interest or conviction. A general interest magazine usually is mostly about other people's interests, right? But its great virtue is being the least self-interested of all the stamp glossies. They push their stuff--circuits and Hip Stamps--but that's so gentle. It's a harmless twenty minutes, better than grading student essays.
As greaden notes, the letters can be nit-picky, irritating. I find that weirdly fascinating, like a bad smell.

I read and appreciate the journal. There are always several articles that interest me. I often learn about a place I had never considered collecting. The country profile on the last page is always helpful.
The recent special issues on the tools of the hobby have been full of useful tips.
The letters can be overly curmudgeonly, though.

I read most of the issue but do not often find much about my specific interests. I save the Worldwide in a Nut Shell.
I find some articles in the APRL Philatelic Literature Review interesting since in addition to book reviews it includes other topics.
