I received an order yesterday in this envelope which I found interesting. The current domestic first class single weight letter rate is 66 cents. So. if we count the postage on the envelope we total 53 cents (including the green revalued indicium) not counting the similitude 10-cent 1847 issue in blue. Adding that 10 cents we now have 63 cents, still 3 cents underpaid. The 10-cent item is from a PACIFIC 97 souvenir sheet.

Nice cover JeffS! But the current first-class rate is still 63 cents. The increase to 66 cents that was just approved doesn't go into effect til July 9.

How about this one JeffS and cursus , Arrived today from Barcelona ( a Catalan dealer in Callus) It adds up to €2.04 but if I am correct that €2.00 is not Spanish ! I think it could be Montenegrin , what do you think Joan? What is Juan Carlos hiding ? src="" alt="" ;" src="http://i.ibb.co/094SbL0/0-B4-DB1-E8-51-DF-4369-BA1-F-359-D19-FB712-C.jpg"][/url]

You're right, Alec. It's a Montenegro stamp, "strategically placed" as to hide the country or origin of the stamp. Due to the low level of the Spanish PO staff, anything goes... They know nothing on stamps (not even, what they are) So, It does not surprise me ... You might stick anything on a cover without any problem. The dealer, is taking advantage of this fact to use unwanted stock...

This brings up a mildly interesting point. Eurozone coins are valid in any country which uses the Euro - Spanish Euro coins can be (and are) used in Germany or Ireland or wherever. Why not stamps? Coins are legal currency issued by governments and can be exchanged for goods and services.
Stamps only pay for postal services operated by a business company, nowadays not run as a government agency. Stamps are issued by the postal company not by the government.

I tend to agree with Ryan. Not sure about other Postal Agencies, but Canada Post is a Crown corporation owned by the federal government. You would think that if the currency is the same and has the same value in each UE countries, it wouldn't matter from what country the stamp is from? Interesting question!!!

What’s to agree FDI ? What works for Canada is one thing, Europe is a conglomeration of many countries, even if they share a common currency , stamps are not currency. The various postal services are not unitary and not necessarily government controlled. La Poste, Deutsche post , etc are companies not government entities . Here in the UK for example the Isle of Man , Guernsey and Jersey all use the British pound as currency, but the stamps from these island territories are not valid for mail posted in the UK mainland.
