Hi all collectors. I can't find these two stamps in the catalogues. Will they be fake...?? Could anyone give some information?
The catalog describes this stamp as purple, but mine is brown:
The catalog describes this stamp as blue, but mine is green:
Any suggestions?
Thank you!

nope - apparently a bona fide set of issues, but see comments below from SG. Issued 4th July 1896 - SG 169 to 173 - the 80th anniversary of the death of Miranda - whoever Miranda was, regret I don't know, sorry.
169 - 5c. yellow-green 170 - 10c. blue 171 - 25c. orange-yellow 172 - 50c. rose-red 173 - 1b. mauve.
the image has the title of 'Map of Venezuela'. the stamp appears here as blue, rather than green, but appearance of colours is very subjective, as always.
SG write - "Genuine stamps are on thin, semi-transparent white paper. Forgeries are usually on thick, opaque paper with dull, instead of shiny, gum. Errors of spelling come from the forgeries".

I do not collect any South American countries, but on my monitor, the top stamp appears to be a pale lilac and the lower stamp looks blue-green. Knowing that all monitors do not display colors the same and there is some change to the images when uploaded, I suspect your stamps may be affected by sulfurization causing the color(s) to diminish/ change. IF the ink used on these stamps is stable a dip in Hydrogen Peroxide may do them wonders. I routinely use a 3% solution(drug/grocery store) undiluted for 10 minutes after an initial 'bath" in warm water with a drop of clear dis soap (rinse in clean water before placing in peroxide dip)
But please determine the inks will not run or bleed if soaked. (anyone know?)
