The remaining "Unlisted" Venezuelan Stamps. Lots of gaps, but posted to allow new collectors of Venezuela to identify, some that seem always to land up in stamp lots, and remain unidentified. The vignettes here may assist. Along with a post I made in 2010 regarding the approach to these. I don't have a copy of pages from Yvert Venezuela 1980, so colours / placement is just guesswork.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I offer these up for your scrutiny. Venezuela 1863 Forgery: ID : Possibly Spiro. Postmarks with dots like this were never used in Venezuela.

Does anyone know a source for recent, used Venezuela or a dealer in Venezuela? Thanks in advance.

I am finding early Venezuela very challenging (but that's OK) Online forgery detection advice is niggardly approached or even hidden. Most of the early stamps are forged, and it seems to me to require purchase of literature ($20) Here is a nice spotlight piece that I relate to, by John Apfelbaum.

Map of Venezuela 1896 I am considering all mine as forgeries. Stamps not opaque, however "Dull smooth Gum" applies to all mine. Should be yellow shiny and crackly. Paper should be thin. "Spur" ID by our member Kim One of mine has the spur, the lighter shade, however smooth dull gum. Both maybe forgeries. In the darker shade, the rivers change course, and the numeral "5" LHS stands to attention.

Hi Rodney Nice Venezuela. For a good description of some forgeries download my Venezuela folder: app.box.com/s/vsdmps7v72xklcifjqx1It was written by Williams Castillo. It is in Spanish but should be readable. When you have it downloaded navigate to Venezuela\FalsePages and open False00.doc.False00.doc is the index to the Venezuela pages.

Thanks on both counts Jerry, along with Classicalstamps should be able to isolate all the varlets in my collection. I have all the first couple of years stamps, and assume all are forgeries, working slow, a couple every now and then to study. I'll post as I find them. I am a little concerned if I have read it correctly, a forgery exists with the 90 degree angle printing on the Guyeana local, that has increased the difficulty rating somewhat.

I'm intrigued by these Venezuelan stamps. I've been doing a lot of sorting of my spring and summer purchases (a LOT of sorting!) and found many that I think are just beautiful. But these Bolivars have me scratching the dome. Most of these you've shown, but the three on the bottom row with then 1900 R.T.Mendoza overprint see, problematic. My Scott's doesn't show these denominations and colours with this overprint. The 5c should be dk green (mine is gray), the 50c should be gray black (mine is orange) and the 1b should be yellow green (mine is red violet).
That leads me to believe that these overprints are forgeries, which are said to exist. Thoughts?

Also, I'll add... 1912 Official
And some fiscal. These are not listed in Scott, but there is a note regarding them stating that in 1947 that a decree authorized the use of the 5¢ and 10¢ for postal use. Other denominations were used unofficially. These are also shown in 1926 with overprints allowing for postal use. I would say that mine appear to be fiscally used, because of they purple cancels, but I see the 50¢ cancel has the word 'Correos' so they could be postal.

All are genuine First three are "resellada" = revalidated overprinted RTM = Ramon Tellos mendoza (minister of the interior) I am about to head off for some Zzzzzz's but here are the Stanley Gibbons # 176 1 bolivar purp 172 5c slate 176 50c orange 131 1893 5c blue green inscribed escuelas hope that helps

PS : Venezuela Postmark ink is consistently Purple / Violet between the years 1943 to 1951 which would include your Fiscals used as postage. Ink then appears to go Black with the occaisional Violet in the CDS's (Circular date stamps)
Your Fiscals look postage to me.

Hi
Blanco catalog has pages of listings for these. I'll check into how much typing. Minkus 1980 also has a few pages of these.
If I make a table I will let everyone know. I will add it to the Venezuela Section of my StampRefs on Box and you can download the whole batch or a piece.
Rodney: Since I do not have a scanner, I may need an image or 2. If I do, I would appreciate you scanning an individual item so I could incorporate it into the table(s)

For the record, not addressed in Steiner pages. Probably as Mr. Steiner built the pages himself, and he appears to follow Scott closely. Some country pages are built by his colleagues and include non-Scott material.
One of the rare ommissions by Steiner. His pages are generally pretty good to excellent.

Can any members offer Scott numbers for these, please ? I have 2008 catalogue, but the info is unclear. Ebay is no assistance, none for sale with Cat numbers. The ebay prices for Venezuela is mind boggling, I wonder if they sell at those prices. Bolivar bicentenary 1978 and onwards.

Hi Rodney Here is a picture of all the issues. The associated souvenir sheets are not included. As soon as I find my Venezuela catalog I will give the Scott numbers. Probably a table in the StampRefs cloud. Simon Bolivar BicentenaryJerry B

I'll be interested to see your Scott numbers, and to figure out why I couldn't I usually associate Stanley Gibbons with poor catalogue descriptions, a rare Scott failure.

Hi Rodney
The picture did not look that bad when I first posted. I may put it back to the original size. A friend scanned it for me and I guess he did it "tiny".
I am putting together a table organized by Venezuela Blanco catalog. Scott is hard as there aren't many images and the organization in some cases leaves something to be desired and there may be wrong issue dates.

rod222, Using the search function on my 2009 Catalog CD (terms "A254 30c" or "A254 1b", whole words only) and Google (for confirmation), I believe the Scott numbers of the Bolivar Bicentenary type stamps are: Upper left, 30c Scott 1196 (Bolivar) Upper right, 30c, Scott 1264 (Rondon) Middle left, 1b, Scott 1188 (Father) Middle right, 1b, Scott 1191 (Rodriguez) Bottom left, 30c, Scott 1193 0 (Petion) Bottom right, 1b, Scott 1197 (Slave) Here is a website that was helpful in confirming most of the identifications. Jerry B, please correct me if I've misidentified any of these.

Fabulous site Steve. Many Thanks. I see my first problem, I was assuming the left and Right stamp, would share the same colour, but no.
Hope this assists Jerry as well. Well done the postmaster of the site.

Hi I just finished putting together a table for the Venezuela Bolivar Bicentenary issues. I put it in StampRefs on the Box cloud. Using the Blanco Venezuela catalog order it turns out that a few Scott entries were a little screwy and without pictures darn near impossible to sort out. So, if anyone wants the document (Rodney especially) the link is: app.box.com/s/a4i5ttk455npeav76sc3The folder contains the table and a folder with all the images (courtesy of StampWorld) Jerry B

I initially thought the bottom left 30c was Bolivar at 25 (Scott 1190) but Googling revealed that the stamp's image was of Petion (Scott 1193). I changed the description but forgot to change the Scott number in my previous post.

G'Day Rodney Thanks. I know you make your own pages and/or Steiner. Would you need the miniature sheet sizes for any reason? I am going to have to send you a Spanish Dictionary Magnificato means Magnified. Magnífico means Magnificent if that is what you meant to say. Here is a good online dictionary: Diccionario Inglés-Español, Español-InglésJerry B
