KGV Sidefaces : COLOUR AND SHADESskittlelinas Quote
Hello Everybody
My name is chantelle. I'm 36 years old living in Sydney Australia. I was given a few stamp albums from dad a couple years ago to find the values of his collection for him. Since then I have not stopped collecting. I'm a sucker for the aussie kgv heads. I have thousands of them and dont see myself not buying as many as I can anytime in the near future. Can't stop and won't stop I have almost a complete collection of Australia stamps on seven seas pages from 1914-2020 not including all the Roo denominations. I wasn't focused on collecting the roos until recently. Looking forward to being an active member of this stamp community and hopefully getting answers to all the many questions I have. More specifically, identifying all the kgv shades which the acsc doesn't explain in depth enough for me to use that alone to figure out all the many shades of the kgv heads. Thanks for taking the time to read this.Hi Chantelle, Welcome to the magnificent madness. Mr. Orlo-Smith was the Guru of KGV sideface shades, I believe he worked from a collection of 300,000 ? (1d Reds) The Penny red shades

AUSTRALIA CTO BOOKLETS Partime In an recent purchase, I found this booklet. It has seen better days, but it is filled with CTO versions of several stamps. It appears that a previous owner added blocks of 4, and some other items that probably were not in the original booklet. I intend to remove them from the booklet based on the stain on the cover, but thought I would post for your comments. The pen marking on the cover implies purchased in 1952. In the lower left of the cover, I see "C.7191/50". Are there many of these out there? Any particular scans you would like to see? I include the scan of the Coat-Of-Arms, front and back.I would strongly recommend you DO NOT do this. Good husbandry would have you preserve Australia's stamping history (no matter how partially damaged) Perhaps, place the stamps in "Hagner" style mount pages, and leave them in the folder ? Fresh Glassines? I have no idea what your items are worth financially. However a 1965 similar Australian Booklet of Australian Stamps (Antarctic and Cocos) SOLD AT AUCTION ESTIMATE $600 SOLD $480

What I am going to do is recreate the booklet as it was created, and keep the extras aside. It was a nice find, all mint never hinged and in very good shape.

Great news Steve, I can rest easy. Notwithstanding the value of the material, that is a great find ! I had not seen those before in 30 odd years of collecting. PS: I could not see any CTO strikes on the smaller values. and I wonder why the 5/- (5 shilling ) is missing the SPECIMEN opt?

All of the smaller values have a very, very light CTO cancellation, but full original gum. I'll put them together and post when I have time. Thanks for your comments.

AUSTRALIA : "BALDY" THE KANGAROO (Designed by a Londoner, England) The entry which won second prize in the 1911 Commonwealth Stamp Design Competition, featured a Kangaroo (Kere aherre indigenous language) The entry was submitted under the non-de-plume "BALDY" by Mr. E.A. Arnold of London. Baldy's roo was adopted in the Kangaroo and map stamps which were used for 30 years (Not my image) July 1st 1913 Kangaroo "The Laughing stock of the civilised world" How do you feel now Mr. Agar Wynne ? Perhaps you should have invested in the "Laughing Stocks" for your grand children's education !

No, unfortunately the blocks are all just MNH nice copies (not even a trace of a cancellation). I think the previous owner was just trying to get an example of CTO, single MNH, and block MNH for some type of future display (never finished). I guess that is my job now.

PartimeThanks Steve, Keep an eye out for any CTO blocks of 4, can be scarce. (Miller blocks) Without being persnickety, I was thinking the glassine strips in your folder were looking brown, indicating the glassine deteriorating, (as it does over the years) I may be tempted to remove the stamps, now the image has been created and place them in fresh glassines, inside the folder........just a thought.

Australia : Ephemera : Postcards Academia WARNING: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are warned that the following monograph contains images of deceased persons. Very interesting Rod ... I have to admit I had no idea about this issue when in comes to Australia and Australian postcards, photographs and emphemera. The phrase "The camera became a coloniser, a preparer of the route to European Expansion in the late nineteenth century" is an interesting POV and quite arresting. Do exhibiters put such a warning on postcard or stamp displays? ... ie. "WARNING: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewers are warned that the following display may contain images of deceased persons".

I placed it from seeing it / reading it when images are shown on television. Under the tenet, if I give respect, it will be shown in return. I cannot walk in their shoes, but it troubles me when I see, headings like "Ten Pound Charlie" or "Dusky maidens" etc We are in troubled times, when the indigenous peoples around the globe, are seeking freedom / acknowledgement from their colonisers past. Trinidad and Tobago are an example
