Hi fellow collectors! My name is Yan and I have been collecting stamps on and off for many years since high school. I collect the world but since there are so many out there, I must narrow down to a few popular topicals such as art/paintings, antiquities, children related, but basically anything I like.. LOL One of my favorite activities is to attend stamp shows within the US or overseas, I've attended at least 5 international stamp shows, 2 in the US, 3 overseas. It's nice to be here and please feel free to connect with me on anything stamps related! Cheers, Yan

Hello Yan, welcome to the forum. Just wondering, will it be feasible for you to visit UN's New York Headquarter to get a postmark on the 24th of August? I am looking for a participant for my Stamp Out War: Support Ukraine! project that originated from this forum.

Hello Yan, welcome to the forum. Just wondering, will it be feasible for you to visit UN's New York Headquarter to get a postmark on the 24th of August? I am looking for a participant for my Stamp Out War: Support Ukraine! project that originated from this forum. Hi Linda - Really awesome project you have here。 Unfortunately, I won't be able to go to the UN on the 24th which is a Thursday. It's a working day for me and my office is located in downtown and UN is in the midtown. Also to get to the office you need to go through security。 However, I can offer to mail a card over to UN and ask for the 24th postmark, but this is not guaranteed that they do it properly。 The postmarking people who work for UN are pretty notorious for doing poor postmarks. I myself stopped asking them for first day cancellations。

yanlovstamps -- Thank you Yan for your reply and offer. Let's see if I can recruit a New Yorker to pay UN's headquarter a visit on 24 August. If no one is able to go, I will contact you about mailling in my items for cancellation. By the way, I am just curious about the 'period' punctuation you placed at the end of several of your sentences. '。' denotes the period (end of a phrase) in 2 Asian languages I understand -- namely Mandarin and Japanese. Do you happen to be able to type in one of these languages?

Yes, only Chinese but no Japanese.

yanlovstamps -- Oh great! We have another Chinese language reader! There have been quite a few questions related to stamps issued in the early days of ROC & PRC & etc. which I honestly don't know anything about. Maybe you can help a bit with Chinese philately? My 'expertise' (if I can say to be an expert in anything haha) lies in more modern topical issues that can be used to create work of art ...

Like how early? Big and small dragons? I think I am only useful when it comes to translations Nowadays, I do a lot of first day covers and pictorial postmarks, doing my part to making stamps collecting alive and running.

Yes, creating maxicards ranges from impossible to "easy, peasy lemon squeezy". It all depends. But you can just get a simple, regular cancel, instead of always hunting for a pictorial postmark.
Also, you can have fun with your own rules, or lack thereof.
Just philatelic souvenirs, as they please you.

It’s true - I’ve had a lot of fun making maximum cards using first-day postmarks or other pictorials that are easily available through the mail. All thanks to dorincard’s encouragement!
