Just picked up a small, very inexpensive auction lot of mostly fake / forged Venezuelan coat of arms issues. These have the smallest font of any overprint on a stamp that I have ever seen. If you look under magnification, that tiny little black line says “Estampillas de Correo- Contrasena” sometimes words are in a different order. I’m deliberately buying these real/fake mixes (if the price is right) so that I have a reference collection. To me studying a series is so much easier if you have more material to examine. It’s like in statistics- a larger sampling usually equates to more accurate results. Does anyone else do this or is this a Terri anomaly? Lol Once I work through them (eventually one day!) I’ll post a pic of my results.

sounds a TERRIble idea;-);-) Terri (philatelia), but they look great, though no idea how to spot the good, the bad or the ugly - I've yet to get into Venezuela. Are you able to point us, here, to genuine examples - and what decade of C19 or C20 are we in with such things? please.

paul1 - Oh my! LoL! I’m still in the acquisitions phase, but I’ll write up a nice post here when I have time to dig in and study these issues, maybe even do something for the newsletter.

Mostly all the 5 overprinted are genuine stamps… only is reported one fake overprinted and is rare. There are some studies by Moratti at Asofilca website about the fakes identifications (all are in Spanish)
