Overall, I find C O B to be a very well organised and defined catalogue. However, i have noticed one symbol which I cannot fine a description/definition of In the image below the block of text just above the stamp #/decription and CV, 1st line almost at the end. A box with the numeral "1" in it, the top of the box looking like a spiral and I am thinking this is a calendar page (?) My question is this signifying htat the date following July 1, 1938 is when the stamp(s) were withdrawn (printing ceased)? Issue date wa July 1, 1930 Thank you Stan

I found it! "Hors cours" which google translates to "Off course/ out of court" which i take to mean when the the stamps were no longer offered (withdrawn)
It required my magnifying glass!
anyone with a better suggestion, please advise

Stan stainlessb - you have the right interpretation "Hors cours" esentially means "taken out of service", so when they were withdrawn as you surmised.

I had a chance to check what my Balasse says about these stamps - see images below. It's intersting that the years match, but the dates of release and withdrawal are a little different. Still no explanation of why they added the names to the engraving though:

I wonder if it may have been an objection from Leempoels, who was still alive, that he was not credited as the artist? (He died in 1935)
I'm nut sure how hard it is to modify a die, but I would think the resizing. It looks (to me) like the top was shortend by 0.5mm, and the crown and date lowered slightly to keep the same relative 'space" as on the initial series. Looking at the dupes I have, all have enough room in the margins for the names without changing anything.
Thanks for the additional info!
