Does anyone know what the last year that the Scott "Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue" was a single volume for the whole world???
I have a 1933 edition that is a single volume and it is my favorite catalogue for looking up old stuff because it is 6x9 and fits in my hands easily.
I know it was not long after this that Scott split the catalogue into two volumes. Since I mainly collect 1840-1940 I would like to have a copy of the last single volume edition.

1943 was the first year Scott split the catalog into 2 volumes. A single volume 1943 was still published that year, in addition to the 2-volume edition.
However, I'm not sure if 1943 was the final year they made a single volume edition.

Obviously the single volume edition is thicker, but in case you have nothing to compare to:
-- single-volume 1943 has "COMBINED EDITION" on the spine -- 2-volume editions have the volume number written on the spine
There is one on sale on eBay, but it is actually pricier than the 2-volume editions.
I've not seen a combined (single-volume) edition after 1943, but cannot say with certainty that one was not produced after 1943 -- sorry. I don't want you to get the 1943, and find out later it was not the last year. Hopefully, someone else can chime in to confirm/correct.

Oh, you're right. I even see a 1965 combined edition for sale on eBay. So obviously they continued to produce them for quite awhile!

I see two 1967 combined edition for sale on Amazon. Thanks for posting about your 1949 combined edition, stainlessb! Now you've got my interest piqued. I never realized they made them so late. They changed to 3-volume sets in 1972, so I'm guessing we are getting close to the end?

OK, I have the final say from Scott website (apparently they have updated the info since I last read it) -- the 1971 Combined Edition (published in 1970) is the last year the combined editions were produced!

I'm just getting to the board today, reading posts from earliest to latest. So, as I read this thread, I was preparing in my head the reply I was going to write, until I read khj's latest posts. (Well done tracking this down, btw!) When I was growing up and in my early brush with stamp collecting, I remember my mother (who had caught the bug, too), had purchased a 1-volume Scott worldwide, in addition to a US Specialized. I was trying to remember the date, but the best I could've offered was a year range, and my guess was going to be between 1967 and 1972, which is when we were both active and high school hadn't become so daunting yet. So that triangulates nicely with Kim's research, and thank you!
