Pics of the £1 Cahir Castle forgery, from the 1980s Architecture series, compared to a genuine. This counterfeit was, unfortunately, close enough to the original that An Post, The Irish Postal Service, decided to issue a new £1 definitive, featuring Killarney Cathedral, pictured below. (Darn spellcheck keeps changing An Post to A post!)

thanks Terri - agree, the forgery is an exceptionally fine reproduction - the difference appears simply as a slight loss of sharpness, which might occur naturally on occasions in real life anyway - I can't see any errors in the technicalities of the design of the forgery, and the perfs. are v.g. I like this entire series - I'm partial to a bit of architecture.

An excellent counterfeit item.Normally Irish counterfeiters are not that clever.A prime example is the counterfeiter who filed the edges of 50-p coins to make 10p coins...........
