In 1965, two perf. 14x13.5 stamps designed by Olav Mathiesen of Denmark commemorated the 20th anniversary of the United Nations and International Cooperation Year, a 5c dark blue (Scott 143) and 15c lilac rose with French inscription (Scott 144). The stamps were printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson and Co., Ltd., England. A souvenir sheet with dark blue and ocher marginal inscription and ocher edging was also issued. The 92mmx70mm sheet contained one each of Nos. 143 and 144.    Three stamps and an imperforated souvenir sheet were issued in 1975 to mark the 25th anniversary of the UN: 6c red, gold, dark & light blue, perf 11.5 (Scott 209); 13c dark blue, gold, green & red, perf. 11.5 with French inscriptions (Scott 210); 25c dark blue, gold & light blue, perf. 12.5 (Scott 211); and, a 94.5mmx78mm sheet with gold border and violet blue marginal inscription containing the three imperf stamps (Scott 212). The stamps were designed by OleHamann and Olav S. Mathiesen (souvenir sheet); they were printed by Courvoisier, S.A., Switzerland.  Two perf. 13 stamps marked the 30th anniversary in 1975, a 10c olive bister & multicolored and a 26c purple & multicolored (Scott 260 and 261). An imperf souvenir sheet with the two stamps was also issued (Scott 262). The stamps were designed by Asher Calderon and the sheet by Olav S. Mathiesen. Printing was performed by Ashton-Potter, Ltd., Canada.   |

rod222, The 94c Braille and 42c Accessibility are UN New York Scott 961 and 960, respectively. The 1fr Handshake and 1.80fr Amour are UN Geneva 485 and 486. The .55 euro Graduate and 1.40 euro Person, etc., are UN Vienna 427 and 428.

I remember as a young collector in the early 1960s, how attracted I was to stamps of the UN. I so wanted all the issues to date, but couldn't afford them on my allowance of $1/week (and that only if I completed all my assigned chores). I especially wanted the souvenir sheet (Scott 38, I think), but that was far beyond my means. Now I own all issues through 1975, mostly acquired in the past 3 years at prices less than those I would have paid in the early 60s (definitely would have been a lousy investment). But I fulfilled a fantasy, and that is certainly worthwhile.
Certainly glad I put my money to better use by buying all those "Face on Mars" stamps!

I mentioned in another thread that the UN was holding an exposition at the American Philatelic Center in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania later this month. If you haven't had a chance to look at the show program, I suggest that you do as there is a great deal of good information on collecting the UN. |

Thanks for this link. I have been wanting to get better informed about UN products. I have a box or two of material that I do not know how to organize, sort, save, or sell. These articles may give me some insight. Also might give me an idea as to what others are collecting and if there is a market for what I do not wish to keep.

Lauretta Garabrant, N.J. was an ATA DISTINGUISHED TOPICAL PHILATELIST and awarded the DTP in 1973 for service to topical philately in general and to the American Topical Association in particular. Help! My students want to use a graphic from this UN stamp on a conference program cover. Open access; twenty-five year rule. But I need a high density scan for the printer, and I do not have the stamp. Anyone got a mint copy they can run through the machine? This is the 1976 UN 3 ct definitive, 'To unite our strength', Scott 267.

I notice in looking at APS Circuit books that United Nations is a needed circuit.
I’m curious why this is. I have both my collection and my dad’s (passed away) that are pretty complete into the late 80’s
I was a little interested in trying a circuit to sell, which I’ve never done before, but are UN stamps in any kind of demand. My brain tells me “No”, but what do I know.

It is best to contact APS and ask them what specifically about the UN area is in high demand.
There are very roughly about a dozen pre-1990 issues (only considering major catalog numbers) that are "worth" more than face value (if purchased as individual sets, rather than part of a larger lot). It's not until the 1990s that you start getting into more sets that might retail for more than FV. This corresponds, as expected, to the big drop in UN collectors in the US. But even then, the great majority of them are still FV or less. Just thumb through catalog quickly from 1990 onwards, and you can quickly spot the higher premium stamps. Some of the premium stamps are because they are topicals/series, even though the supply is still quite plentiful.
I would "guess" what is in short supply at a decent retail price are some of the pricier/trendier issues, such as the ones with personalized labels, which catalog in the $10++ and $100++ range, and a small number of the prestige booklets. These items are "oversized" items. But quite frankly, I think the catalog values are quite inflated even for those issues (my opinion).

Not UN specific, but it works. Rather than go the circuit route, I have had nice luck recently finding used UN stamps on Hip Stamps and to a lesser degree on Colnet. For sellers they are more work in some ways, but for buyers like me they're much better. Here is my most recent acquisition, a UN Geneva with a fairly nicely center cancelation, the way I like them, but contra UN postal regulations, as usual.

Indeed, at least in Scott, you will find that most pre-2000 postally used prices are a tad bit higher than the mint price for Geneva and Vienna. Not so for New York. I assume that is because so much dealer mailing was done through UNPA in New York during that time period.
