crickbob, if convenient, please post when you do get a reply. As I stated, I can only "guess" as far as why UN is a "needed circuit". For all I know, it could be something simple, like -- everybody assumes there's no demand so they don't bother submitting UN circuit books!

Here is a mint and Geneva cancelled UN design I like a lot, from 1992 but cancelled 2000, I think.
UN stamps seem to be pure philatelic. They were real enough, back in the League days. But since the UN Geneva office started issuing stamps in 1969, I have never seen one used on a business letter. If you can find an official use, do show; I'd be fascinated.
And this one was 3 francs; ouch. Someone wanted it. I didn't pay that much. The cancel is okey-dokey; it's so rare to see better.

United Nations Geneva issue. Shown rather large; I like the design, based on a mural at the UN in New York, a gift from Brazil from the 1950s. The stamp just shows a detail. The complete mural is massive, the size of a tennis court. Printed in 1974, how this one was not cancelled until 1996? Do they let random stuff lay around that long? Don't the clerks get bored with it by then?

Bill Symes has provided the below images of the only stamp precanceled by the United Nations. The precancel is on the 1½ cent blue green stamp showing the UN Headquarters Building (Scott 2; 1951). It exists in two variations, offset and letterpress printed. The offset variety is at left and the letterpress is at right. Should you have questions about these or other precancels, Bill may be contacted at wgs092045 AT gmail DOT com.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I enjoy seeing the pages created by forum members but have not tackled any myself. When it comes to preprinted pages I have always felt that White Ace was head of the class. At some point I had acquired their United Nations pages up till 1970. I do not have the original binder. I have all but a few of the stamps of that era, mostly mint never hinged. They are lovely stamps that have not taken off price wise so they are affordable to collect. The pages are on a very heavy stock. I am sure most of you have seen the pages but in case not here is a sample one.

I am mot sure United Nations is worth collecting anymore. My Dad was a collector of UN stamps in the 50[s and early 60's. I have noticed now the UN issues stamps from Geneva and Brussels and it is a mess to collect. I was shocked to find how the UN stamps have not increased in Value from the 50's. Seems to me collecting UN is a labor of love and/or philatelic interest by topic. I quit even trying to keep up with UN, I still get an annual set from Mystic stamp company but again it is world heritage series and two stamps from each issuing office. Not a fan anymore. Nick

UN issues stamps from New York (US$), Geneva, Switzerland (CHF) and Viena, Austria (€). If you are into stamps for money, you're wasting your time and your money.

yes, agree, am sure that's a valid point, which in some ways is a bit sad in view of the well intentioned moral arguments and efforts made. Here are a few more which seem not to have been posted so far, so thought might be of interest to those folk who do collect UN material. I could certainly share some of that Peace and Fraternity although not sure I understand what is being 'carried' in the 'Truth' design - looks like a position of getting ready for 'shot putting'. Perhaps unusual or odd that 'Justice' appears to have Excalibur ready to mete out fairness. In fact the blurb tells us that these are valid for postage .... ' and may be mailed from the Pavilion on the United Nations at EXPO 67 - Montreal (Canada)'.

I had been organizing my Dad's collection of UN stamps. I was surprised at how inexpensive they were. It is weird though when one time I brought my UN binder with me to a stamp show or maybe it was a dealer's shop. That is beside the point, what was surprising was the minute I opened it and asked the dealer what he had in UN it wasn't much and he immediately wanted to buy my collection. I have never had that experience with any other stamp issuing entity.
I decided he asked that question because his offerings were so limited for the UN. I said no thanks and went on to look for other stamps. There were a couple of other customers there as well. I checked out and left the store, immediately one of the other customers came out of the store and asked if I would be interested in selling. Again, I said thank you but no I am not interested.
If you look at some sites that have offerings of stamps for stamps issued by the UN the prices are very low. It is sort of odd to me that there seems to be a market for UN stamps but the prices for the stamps do not reflect that demand.
The prices for new UN stamps from the UN itself are not inexpensive. Yet they sure do not hold their value in the marketplace.
Just a curious oddity about UN stamps.

The prices for new UN stamps from the UN itself are not inexpensive. Yet they sure do not hold their value in the marketplace. Just a curious oddity about UN stamps. Nick It’s irritating, but nothing to be done. My impression is the same oversupply problem as virtually every normal stamp issued after the mid-1930s. There are just too many. Collectors were getting richer. Postal agencies were delighted to oversupply.
UN stamps really got going in 1951, well into the era of massive philatelic sales. Every country’s stamps from then are cheap. UN especially, since they were basically for collectors. Nobody working at the UN had much use for them. At the New York headquarters, it was a nuisance to take mail downstairs and across the building to the post office. The post office was inconveniently—but revealingly—located in the tourist area, by the gift shop. Staff just metered everything and dumped it in the chute; much snappier.
The situation is tighter with older League of Nations mail and stamps. Some of that—Swiss overprints especially—can be pricey. There also are UN freaks—missing colors and such—that command serious money.
My UN collecting stresses cancellations, especially nicely centered in violation of regulation. They aren’t worth much, but they’re pretty.
