Hi my name is Kat and I live in norther California. 5 years ago on November 8, 2018 the Campfire leveled our town and surrounding communities. In that fire I lost everything including my treasured stamp collection. In 1981 my grandfather and I would spend time together collecting stamps.(He had also been collecting since he was a little boy) When he passed in 1998 I inherited his collection. It was largely Stamps from the USA, but there were also many from around the world. I have started gathering and collecting stamps again, to build my collection, however, it will never be the same. Even though I have been collecting for many many years, I am really just a beginner in my knowledge of this hobby. I’m really looking to broaden my knowledge and I’m looking forward to learning from you guys. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this group.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Welcome Kat and glad you have decided to carry on with the hobby even after the heart wrenching loss. With so many disasters in recent years I often think of the loss of so many collectables. These losses seem minor compared to the loss of life but they do take a toll on ones mental well being. We look forward to sharing with you and also seeing what you have accumulated.

Hi Sallykat - what a heartbreak to lose your collection. I’d give you a hug - but here’s an air hug anyways! (((Sallykat)))
If you like Japan stamps, I’d be happy to send a few to help rebuild your collection. Just send me a private message - just click on message - I’m sure you know the drill.
’Cheers from Terri in Florida

to TSF! Glad to have you with us. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I have often pondered what I would do in such in a situation (forest fires are the most likely catastrophic risk in my area), and I don't think I would have the courage to start my collection again.

Hi Kat, sorry to hear about the loss of your collection. You still have good memories though and perhaps you can relive those while getting back into the hobby again.

Welcome Kat. Those of us in Canada can certainly empathize with your loss from wildfires. We seem to have a lot of them up here and they have also cause much personal loss. I spent this past weekend with my family in northern Saskatchewan, covered with so much smoke we rarely ventured outside. And you're right, your new collection will never replace what you lost and the memories that go along with that, but starting up again is in itself, an opportunity to do something your grandfather obviously appreciated. New starts are also great for doing something new and that can be fun also. All the best and just post whatever question you have and someone will help.

Hello and welcome! I am glad you have gotten back to collecting after your tragedy. I had lost some albums during a flood in '98. I was lucky most of the stamps were salvaged as they were mostly used. My dad had left me a definitive set of Hong Kong block MNH from the early '70s, they are now MNG ( mint no gum). Anyway, welcome from Scugog, Ontario, Canada!
