On Thursday, September 14th, at 6:00 PM EST, (11 PM BST) The British Empire Study Group will present a Free Zoom program entitled:
"Constructing an Award-Winning One Frame Exhibit on a Budget” with Frederick P. Lawrence, Ph.D., FRPSL
I’ll be co-hosting the program along with Joan Harmer (of Harmers International).
Registration and additional program information can be found by selecting the following link: madmimi.com/s/a856371
As always, our programs are recorded and available for FREE on YouTube (usually within 2 weeks following the broadcast).
It would be wonderful to see some of you there in person at the broadcast (say Hello). An open discussion will follow the presentation. Rob

Rob ( REL1948), I am in the Eastern Time Zone at the moment, and 18:00 here falls right during our scheduled dinner tonight, so I will have to wait for the recording this time around. Hope you will have a good session, and sorry I won’t be able to be there this time.

Whilst given the hour, I was unable to attend and will, like others, have to wait for the recording. In the meantime, I found this presentation by Mr. Frank Walton of interest "Treatment in Traditional Philately" which tied me over until the British Empire Study Group video is made available,
Although not everyone is interested in exhibiting publicly, Mr. Walton (who, unfortunately is no longer with us) does provide some gems of collecting wisdom for building out a traditional collection including a slide or two on 'pretty covers'... Have fun and happy collecting!
P.S. The video may be of particular interest for those that collect single issues and the King George V Key Plates specifically.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I enjoyed watching this presentation even though I have never even considered exhibiting. Truth be known I have never gone to an actual stamp expo and seen an exhibit in person. I am more apt to do so now. It was good to see a few Forum members in attendance. Thanks Rob. REL1948 keep reminding us of these events.

I was there ! Spotted Hugh, Stan, and of course Rob, as well as a mate Terry from another local Stamp club where I am due to do a display in 3 weeks time.
I have to say I was a bit disappointed in his exhibit … three pages had covers mounted in vertical format which is a big no-no for me.you have to twist the head sideways to look at them. I know he is a FRPSL and a philatelic judge but a double size page would have accommodated two of his Large covers in horizontal array. From his marking scores, I guess the guy judging his exhibit marked him down on presentation.
gee you North Americans and Acronyms. Who would have guessed “OFE” ….”EEF”….AAPX
THE FIRST IS “One Frame Exhibit”. I can’t remember the other two

My focus was on the 'budget' part which he covered off by 'choose modern issues.' Which was interesting to see in action.
You can add M/S (miniature sheet) to the list of UABTWROTSFTWW (unnecessary acronyms because there was room on the slide for the whole word) Not sure what the / was for.
It was neat to see so many people attending. Maybe 50 stayed for the Q&A?

Yes, I had not used Zoom in a while and had a background of my garden.... and I had forgotten that if I don't place the session wingdow on my right monitor, the video function doesn't work. But yes I was there- I didn't rerally have any specific questions. Magnification comments were interesting and I'd never given much thought (as i take magnified images quite often)
I agree with Alex that the sideways covers was a distraction.

It was wonderful to see so many of you in the audience for yesterday evening’s presentation. I really enjoyed the discussion afterward about vertical or horizontal entries in an exhibit. Along with Alex (vikingeck) and several others, I too found the vertical cover problematic. The discussion at that point became really interesting. Metric vs English system, a topic close to my heart, came up right away when comparing paper sizes A4 vs 8.5 x 11. Depending on the actual frame size allowed, one solution to the vertical cover dilemma is 2 sheets of 8.5 x 11 placed side by side for an 11x 17 work area, allowing for an aesthetically pleasing layout with oversized material.
The reality of global Exhibiting is that the ‘Exhibition Rules” vary from country to country making a ‘one size fits all’ currently impossible. However; aside from specific 'Rule' differences, the power-point presentation (before the actual Frame examples) was excellent and would work within any set of ‘Rules’ as a general guideline. If you decide that you’d like to try exhibiting; become thoroughly acquainted with the specific ‘Rules’ for the jurisdiction you're going to exhibit in, even before choosing a topic and acquiring the material. For anyone reading this that missed the presentation, it will be on YouTube sometime in the next couple of weeks. Rob
