Anil, there's an interesting story behind these stamps. According to the Scott Catalogue, they were privately produced for the exhibition and the promoters presented a quantity to the Spanish Post office who placed them on sale and allowed them to be used for three days. Reprints exist and have blurred colours, yellowish paper and inferior, almost invisible gum. The original printers retained the printing plates and likely printed and sold further quantities over the years, also producing deliberate errors. Daniel

I don't collect Spanish stamps, but being in Barcelona and reading Spanish (I'm not too fluent speaking it!) I know something about this issue. Serious collectors, "don't touch them, even with a wooden stick". It's a mine-field. "Reprints", aka "forgeries" far exceed legitime prints. Cancellations, have laso been widely forged. So, beware!

I'm not a serious collector of Spain's stamps but I do have a wooden walking stick. Here is a possible reprint of the ultramarine, 25c value (Scott C52) that is in my possession. My inventory indicates that I have two other values from the Spanish-American Exhibition issue but my back has failed me, yet again, and it is too painful right now to pull out the album to verify.

daniel thank you. wow. I didn't find anything online about these. but found it strange because of the name PRO UNION IBEROAMERICANA and no mention of ESPANA.... since I read / write and speak fluent Spanish (but learnt from the warehouses of Panama when I was there as a young worker ). so not your Real ESPANOL but Latino espanol. thanks tomiseksj for sharing your stamp. always learn something new amongst you guys. thanks cursus

I'd agree with cursus, Issued 30th September 1930 at Seville Privately produced The Spanish Post Office agreed to sell a certain quantity for 3 days (or so the story goes) Inverted Lindbergh, The cat is "Patsy" Lindbergh's cat, not taken on flight. Information from various sources, hearsay etc.

What makes these particular stamps even more odd is the fact that Spain, of course, issued their own stamps for the Spanish-American Exhibition, SG 627-641. Stanley Gibbons also accept these privately printed stamps as postage stamps SG 643-651. Like them or not, they make for an interesting study, in particular the 1 peseta green. I have these and may have more. Of all those shown in this thread, only the first stamp that I show here is likely a genuine original.

Bill Hornadge Catalogue (Australia) At the risk of contradicting the great Bill Hornadge, this stamp was printed in one colour and so there was no need to have a separate printing plate for Lindbergh's head. Moreover, if there was a separate plate the inverted head would be over the cat (and such examples do exist). This stamp could only have been created deliberately and some time after the original version. Daniel
