I have been using Staples 65 lb. cover stock to print album pages on. I am using an HP or Ricoh color laser printer. When I print on this paper, a lot of times, the page comes out with toner all over the page and there is toner in the printer that comes out on the next page. Any tips on what I can do to get the toner to stick to the paper.
I have no problem getting the toner to stick to regular 20 lb. white copier paper.

Andy, have you tried changing the media settings? Sometimes this can be done on the printer or in print settings or both. It all depends on the printer.

Is it a factory-filled cartridge? I just had something similar happen when I refilled the HP cartridge I was using. Tried printing the page and it was mess. Bought a new HP cartridge and it worked fine. BTW, I use the same weight cover stock for my album pages.

I bought one of those refill cartridges also and the color seems to work just OK and really "blue heavy" You must only refill the cartridge once or the scanner will "get wise" to it and yell at you (I'm really not kidding it will say this is not an original cartridge or some-such?) Since I routinely work with ink I can tell you with very little uncertainty why you are having problems. It has to do with the thickness or viscosity of the inks. Colors are usually more watery than the black ink but black is alcohol based and will thicken up very quickly after opening changing the amount that will freely flow (via capillary action through the electrical induction part) causing a real mess. It is of vital importance to refill the cartridge upright and with no more and preferably a little less than recommended. The colors are another animal completely! The cyan will usually be thinner than the magenta just causing another mess. Usually the blue (cyan) will over-run the magenta and look smeared and more blue. if you filled them correctly it will sometimes straighten itself out (usually in about 20 copies or so) or, if it sits a few hours to days to thicken properly. Whatever you decide on I wish you good luck.
The short of it is~ it will be better on everyone (including the scanner/printer) to just bu a new toner cartridge.

I'm not certain, but it sounds like I.L.S. is talking about ink-jet cartridges, while Andy is using laser printers. With a laser printer, I imagine that an adjustment to media settings would help. If you can "tell" the printer that you're using heavier paper, it will "know" to treat it differently.

As Zuzu suggests, it is most likely media settings. Make sure you select the media type as cover stock, or heavy weight, or something like that. Each brand of printer may have different wording. What happens is that the laser printer fuser requires higher heat for heavier paper and various film stock. The settings for these various media items change the heat or even the speed of the printing to allow for the proper fusion of the toner to said media. I learned the hard way I too use Staples 65lb and it works fine now, but I had the same problems as Andy before studying the media settings.
