My entire collection of stamps are housed in Crystal mounts. I like the way they look and preserve the stamp. There is a BUT coming in this ode to mounts. I have mounts size 20 to 153 and a few in the 200's. My nightmare is storing the ones I use frequently. Once I open a packet, no matter how carefully as time and use goes on the packet are touched, they start to wear and tear. Currently I have all the 20's in a stack with a rubber band around the stack. As the numbers increase the the 30's and the 40's and etc. in each their own stack with a rubber band around them. As I am mounting away, I suddenly realize one stack is spilling some of the mounts out as that particular strip has been used and not the same length as the rest in that packet.
I have searched everywhere for a way to store these mounts so they will be readily accessible and not spilling all over the place. Needless to say, I have not found anything that will hold the mounts properly. Is there anyone out there that has this issue? Or better yet is there someone who has solved this problem? I am at my wits end trying to maintain the mounts properly.
Anyone with an idea how to store these mounts? I would appreciate any response.
Nick

I use a plastic utility box with adjustable sized "compartments". The box is intended for organizing small parts (and keeping them separated). The lid snaps shut securely, and the way it is made, if you drop it, turn it over (while closed) everything stays put! I have several partitioned boxes which are set up as needed. As I recall the cost was under $10 each

I put all of the strips in labeled envelopes and store all of the envelopes in order in a tub. It's easy to find and keep organized.

My entire collection of stamps are housed in Crystal mounts. Nick Hopefully you mean modern stamp mounts in general like Hawid, Prinz, Lighthouse etc. The 'Crystal Mounts' brand name, made by H E Harris were notorious for destroying stamps placed within them.

No I meant Showgard mounts. I got a few ideas from the above entries. I guess I will go to the container store and see if any light bulbs goes off and I find something. Almost anything is better than the way they are now. Thanks for all the ideas. Nick

I concur with what michael said. The Crystal Mounts...while they look good initially...will turn yellow over time and turn the stamps yellow too. I have a couple of albums around here somewhere with those mounts and exactly what I am describing. I'd post a pic but I have no idea where they are right now.
I used those mounts back in junior high in the 70s and they had a bad name even then. I switched to Showgard after that. Yeah...as a 13-14 year old kid in JH, I had that much pride in my stamp collection to switch to Showgard.

I buy my Uni-Safe mounts at a Montréal dealer - prices good and have never had problems - though I still have Hawid, Showgard and Lighthouse mounts, left overs from my late dad - René
