I knew about the Doane cancels with the numbers in them, but I wasn't aware the non-numbered 4-bars were considered a type of Doane. I have hundreds of those, mostly from Missouri towns. I don't nearly as many of the numbered ones. I'll get the ball rolling though. What would Halloween be without a postmark from Frankenstein, Missouri. What's neat is that it is on a Christmas postcard.

Interestingly, the town name had nothing to do with the movie monster. The town was named after Gottfried Franken, in 1893, after he donated land and stone ("stein") for the first church. Didn't know this either, but apparently they have a fall festival there every year and issue special pictorial cancels. Found these pic's on the web, but I will have to try and hunt down some actual covers now. And here is a Doane for today: Sent from Franklin, Wash, to....Franklin, Wash. I like this one for several reasons as well. The dial was inserted incorrectly into the handstamp device apparently, so it is twisted about 90 degrees. There are 2 strikes, 1 in magenta (as a departure mark), and 1 in black (as a receiving mark?), and it is a Tucks card with a nice illustration.

Doane cancel from Headsville, WV. I made a bit of a philatelic discovery with this as the date is one day before the previous EKU. Now I have a question: How do you pronounce "Doane"?

I was listing some eBay items and came across this Doane mimic, that is, a barred duplex with a numeral within the bars.
Examples are uncommon and this one is a gem.

Another Doane cancel from Headsville. I can't make out the fourth digit in the year.
