Has anyone with buying or selling, for that matter on Stamporama? I stumbled across this site and see it has its challenges, but also a lot of potential to fill in holes in my collections. Just wondering if anyone has used that site and what their experience was. Thanks, Nick

nick2302In my opinion,Stamporama is much better than Stampstogo .The site has no membership fee and is quite easy to navigate.I have purchased numerous stamps at excellent prices. Anglobob

I have sold a lot on Stamporama, including Cinderella material. I had a Commonwealth collection to dispose of and the bulk of the items went there. No fees and easy to use. Less traffic but eventually a buyer comes along. I rarely find anything to buy there. Plenty of buyers for Cinderellas but rarely do they post to sell.

Stamporama sales platforms are rather hit and miss. The offerings are very random, but you can get some great deals if you keep checking. The approval books can be little gold mines for low value stamps. But the best items in the approvals are usually sold within 48 hours. If you luck out and hit a new release approval book you can do quite well. Best bet is to select notification emails for when your favorite sellers release a new book. A few of the sellers there hinge their approvals - expect a lot of hinge remnants if you buy from them.
The forum part of Stamporama has a large number of rather repetitive discussions about the problems with the sales platforms. Warning - The membership there is strongly against censorship so discussions can get quite heated. Posts that would be deleted here are left, but certain topics are banned (politics, religion, etc).

I have only purchased at Stamporama and happy with my purchases.
The content depends on who is selling so can be in waves since the approval sales are done through books. SOR does not have perennial stamp stores like other sites like a dealer may have on hipsttamp.. Now that SOR has eliminated dues again, there should be more sellers and buyers. There are no SOR fees related to buying or selling. You can get more common stamps for 10 cents or less.

As I have been poking around on Stamporama I was impressed with how many of the stamps were sold. Granted most were old stamps and not identified by Scott number. That to me would be the biggest drawback is that you would need your Scott catalog right next to you so you could get the number and then check to make sure you don't already have the stamp. I haven't yet quite figured out how to set up a "book". Nor do I understand how a "page" of a "book" is placed on the site. As I said I stumbled on the site quite by accident, so it is a new exploration for me. I have a ton of duplicates both used and MNH I have posted on Stamps2go. That site is so heavily used and there are so many of the stamp issued the same stamp can start out at catalog and end up pocket change even comparing like for like, condition for condition. It does appear to have some possibilities, its just figuring it all out. Nick

nick2302 - If anyone is thinking about selling approvals on Stamporama, you’ll be required to number every stamp. I still have all of my numbers made up and won’t be using them, so If interested, send me a private message.

Good morning phjlatelia. So I gather you are not "selling" on stamporama any longer? Is that why you are giving your numbers away? I am still not sure how to post a picture on stamporama and what constitutes a "page". I think I might try to sell some stamps on stamporama after I get knowledgeable on how to get pictures on there.
For that matter I have not learned how to upload a picture here on TSF. I am slowly making my way through all the instructions and rules but have not found out how to accomplish it. Nick

I have only had the experience of buying on Stamporama. It's a strange platform on its own, not much option to filter your search result, you have to skim through every individual page to find your desired item(s). This can be fun or annoying depending on the people (I am the former ). Luckily, I was mainly focusing on stamps of yellow flowers for the Stamp Out War project, and yellow is a really bright colour that pops up easily amidst a bunch of random pixels. So it was never too hard for me to spot something of interest. Prices are always good, be it for the auctions or for the approval books -- the lowest average price I have paid on any platform for philatelic materials. Sellers are fairly nice, and willing to combine shipment if you let them know that you are waiting for some other items. Overall, it's a good place for treasure hunt, but not so much if you have specific items in mind that you want to acquire within a specific time frame. So towards the execution date of my project (which is set on the 24th of August these past 2 years -- but I have to purchase the materials at least a month before that), I had to turn to Hipstamps.com or Delcampe.com or eBay for specific stamps issued in specific countries.

I've bought quite a few approvals on SOR (that's the usual abbreviation that the site uses) from about three different sellers with one being in Canada. I've also just finished the auction side a couple of weeks ago with another seller and I've received all my stamps in a timely manner. I think it was philatelia that had started a thread over there to post our success stories. I gave a shoutout to all my sellers...although I'm not sure I did one for my auction guy. That's been my experience. Mike (brookbam)
