Nothing here Jeff, sorry. Not in my 34 images for Australian permits, nothing under Alice, (NT philatelic material, is generally speaking, scarce) Given the logo, with links to every Australian state centre, I would suggest a Govt or political influence. Otherwise write or ring the Post Office, see if they recognise the interesting logo. The logo may be rock carvings? or?........

The current holder (or recent holder, anyway - the last newsletter on their website showing a PO box address is from 2021) of that PO box is the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic church. I have no proof that they have always held that PO box number but it would seem to me that single-digit numbers would be for addresses with large mail volumes, and I wouldn't expect them to change hands very often (imagine how frustrated any new addressee would be to get a ton of mail all the time for some other concern). Note that the post code shown on your envelope is according to an old numbering scheme which was changed in the early 1990s. Ryan

As Ryan says, the 5750 postcode indicates that this cover predates the change in postal codes that came into effect from 1 June 1988. In mid-1982, the PO Box 9, Alice Springs address was being used by the Aboriginal Self Determination Fund. This was a change from the previous year when the fund was using PO Box 2061. The fund was represented by Father Pat Dodson, who was ordained in the order of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. Going back to 1950, the postbox was being used by the Centralian Mission, a part of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, to raise money in aid of a new Convent Infants' School in Alice Springs, via the "Convent School Art Union". Tickets could be purchased by sending £1 per ticket to the PO Box 9 address. First prize was a 1950 de luxe Vanguard Saloon Car worth £900. Add to this Ryan's findings above and there seems to be a long history connecting Box 9 to the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.

I would not have believed that possible, esp someone from overseas..
What was the trick, please?

Wow! Thanks Peter, look forward to reading that, Serendipity ! Just 30 minutes ago, I made my first payment ($500) for a genealogist to search my family history in Somerset, England and the West Indies That pays for 7 hours work
Look forward to any history of my family, apparently, grandmother had 15 children, look forward to seeing if that is rumour/gossip/fantasy or factual.
