Who has success in introducing stamp collecting to their children or to other kids? I tried with my kids without success and any other kids that I have tried to interest had zero interest. Maybe some other parents or adults have had more luck. Lots of competition for kids to occupy themselves like video games, phones, sports, TV. music lessons, so stamp collecting seems to most of them boring and uninteresting. Would like to hear other experiences with this topic.

I had good luck with my 4 children but that has been a few decades ago, cell phones were not as widespread.
None of them are still actively collecting but are using their collections to involve their children.
I gave then each a Stamp Collecting for Beginners book, a stock book, tongs and some stamps. I was also getting approvals from either Kenmore or Mystic and would let them choose a packet. When i worked on my stamps, i would set up an area fir them to work on theirs and would ask them questions about stamps they had.
I also took them to stamp shows with me and generally, they were tge only young people there. They participated in the giveaways at the show and they had 10c envelops with stamps pinned to boards where they could pick the envelops and pay themselves (have to admit, I did this as well!)
There was always at least 1 dealer booth that would give them an enveop of stamps for free.
My children really enjoyed it while they were still young. Perhaps as they age they will decide to pick it back up again.

mberry Excellent story - Denise and I do not have "kids" (or children). If we had any, I do not think their main hobby would be "stamps" - They would be in Sports (running-swimming-cycling-hockey etc) and studies. As I started stamps at 12, and having run many Marathons as well as Triathlons, hockey included for a while, I guess there is no Universal answer - Keeping them active (physically and mentally) is # 1 From my non computer evolution......things are different today LOL !! Thanks - René

As a kid stamp collecting was a cheap hobby. If your parents were collectors then you followed suit. Most of the neighbors and friends would keep the stamps on the mail for you, some of them from quite exotic countries. Besides stamps we also played marbles. sometimes with nuts in season. We also spun tops, traded comics, cigarette cards, and played numerous games outside if anyone was wealthy enough to have a used tennis ball, most times in their bare feet. We had many fun games like Battle of Waterloo, some could be quite rough. Those were great days to be a kid! Coming home all scratched up and dirty was par for the course.
