This interesting faulty example appears (in my mind) to have an Offset on the back. I can clearly see the offset of the value plate frame, but there are also small specks of green visible in several areas. I don't see this listed in my catalogues, but would appreciate your comments. I have some difficulties figuring out if Thick or Thin paper (appears thick to me), so this is probably Scott J45 and either ACSC D88 (if thick paper), or ACSC D102 (if thin paper). Postmark Reveal easily found the Crown over Double-Lined A watermark. Front of Stamp:
Back of Stamp: A lightly sharpened view of the center of the back of the stamp:
And the Postmark Reveal (as viewed from the back):

I usually refer to John (from Victoria?) he's the Bee's Knees with Aussie Postage Dues.
Blunt Perforation Pins Thick or thin paper, I use a Micrometer for paper thicknesses.
1/- is a hefty "due" , suggests Telegraphic useage?
The Postmark frustrated me, that's a HUGE text arc, across the CDS It defied ALL my attempts at solving, fom 20,000 Aussie Pmks. According to my Aussie Pmks "Post and Telegraph Museum" exists, but not shown in my rarity guide (13,000 entries)
All I could get close was "Post and Telegraph Office" but these are found in Oval hammers, not CDS (Circular Date Stamps)
Further More, the first 3 letters, would suggest an easy result, but nothing comes close PO, FO, POS, FOS, ad nauseum. I'd love to crack this one.

Rod. You always amaze, and sometimes frustrate me. I was looking at the offset / set-off question to be answered, but I am also willing to go further into the postmark. I tried to look a little more closely, and I definitely get a "POST" but it looks like the next letter is an E or L, making the first 5 letters POSTE or POSTL. The date is -3NOV, but I can't make out the year. It think I see a zero, so the only options could be 09 or 10. This sort of points to D88, the thick paper, since D102, the thin paper wasn't issued until November 1917.
I use the term offset because I see in my ACSC catalog a description for D142 calling it an Offset of Frame. There is also a mention of Offset of Value tablet for D100, the 3 pence thin paper. And D130 also mentions the offset of the frame. All of these show significant catalog value, so I was most interested in pursuing the uniqueness or lack thereof of my example. In any case, have a great day.

Here is a recent Australia Postage Due purchase. This is Scott J36, SG D59, ACSC D62. This 5 shilling stamp is the "New Design for Shilling Values" with the watermark Crown over single-lined A. The cancellation is PERTH which agrees with the CTO description in ACSC. The perforation is 12 x 11.

Purchased at the same time, this is the New South Wales Postage Due, Scott J8a, SG D8a, ACSC ND33. What makes this 5 shilling stamp a little more special is that it is a single-line Perf 11, cancelled to order. Per ACSC, an unknown number of stamps sets were mounted on printed sheets and cancelled while on the sheet with the concentric ovals obliterator. (Only two intact sheets are presently recorded, the others were likely broken up and sold individually over the years.) Other CTO versions of this stamp have a sideways obliterator with 4 different sizes of obliterator. This is not one of those 960 CTO stamps. Most 5 shilling CTO were of the single-line perf 10, and ACSC states that single-lined perf 11 comprised only a very small proportion of the total sets prepared. (This does have a thin on the back which would harm any future sales value, though.)
