Hello to all: new member here! I'm a third generation collector whose grandfather got started in the 1930's. I was introduced as a kid, and put together a decent international collection (ok, decent to a 7th grader). The hobby went dormant for a long while; I blame grad school, profession, kids, all that. Last year, I inherited my family's nearly complete collection of US, UN and Canada issues, and this definitely jump-started my interest again: I have been focusing on European colonial issues and on now-extinct territories & countries, but my interests are broad and my collection is international. I'm here to learn. I know how much I don't know; I can only guess at how much I don't even know that I don't know! I've truly appreciated some of the threads on this board that I've found via google searches, most recently a thread about the Cape of Good Hope triangle stamps. I've struggled with identifying some of my stamps, including whether they are authentic, reprints, or forgeries: I'm hoping I'll have a chance to run some of these past those on this forum who are more experienced. Thanks for having me DocJohn 64

Welcome, Dr. John! The Cape Triangles are starting to become something of a specialty around this place, although I just watch from a distance.
There's lots of friendly folk here so feel free to share your collection, ask questions, jump into the conversation, etc. etc. We're glad you're here!

Welcome to our friendly group! The COGH triangle mavens will be delighted to welcome another fan!
If you want to exercise your philatelic “muscles” give the daily identification challenge a try. New members are welcome to participate - just send a private message to me with your best guess. It’s a fun game and also amazing to see the incredible depths of philatelic knowledge within the club.
Whenever we gain a member from the greater Chicago area I get a wee bit homesick - Dad grew up by Comiskey Park, but he was a cubbies fan. (Never tell the neighbors! Lol)

Philatelia, can you tell me where I find that daily identification challenge? Perhaps I didn't dig deeply enough, but I didn't see a thread. As to being a Cubs fan anywhere near Comiskey Park, yes, that's definitely living behind enemy lines. Shots are fired here in Chicago for less than that! Thanks, docjohn64

To answer your query, docjohn64 ; Here is the link to the daily contest. I don’t think new members can post in the buy/sell/trade section - (you need to have 50 posts & two weeks) but I think you can read the posts. I hope I’m right about that. thestampforum.boards.net/post/180325/threadThe challenges vary from newer collector level to advanced so that every member has a chance.

Welcome. If you are available on Saturday Nov 25, there is a stamp show in Countryside at the Holiday Inn at 6201 Joliet Road. You can meet some local dealers and maybe score some additions to your collection. The show hours are from 10AM to 5PM. There is a $1 admission fee. I am a part time dealer, but do not have a table there. However I do have a website - www.ClassicBritishColonies.com. In addition to stamps for sale, there is a lot of educational information that might be useful to you - no Cape Triangles, but a lot of King Edward VII, and both King George V and George VI information on the site.
