Not an expert on the German states, but pick the odd one up since I find them kind of interesting. Can anyone direct me on this one? Looks to be Prussia Hess, but can't find that in the catalogue. Could it be a local postage, or revenue, or the wheel and wings make me think maybe railway or parcel post stamp? What do you experts think?

Wow, awesome stoltzpup, thanks. I never would have found that. Now begs the question, does it go in my cinderella book, or my 'Just because' book with the other German miscellany? Hmmm.

I think of them in a vein similar to the Belgian railway parcel post stamps; definitely back of the book stuff, but interesting enough to be included. Many albums provide spaces for the Belgian rail parcel stamps, also the Italian and sometimes even the Danish, but rarely the German. Don't know why. Perhaps it's because each rail line apparently had its own stamps in Germany. So you can find Bayerische , Sächsische , … etc., etc., as well as Preussische-Hessische Staatseisenbahnen stamps. Add to that any local railway stamps, and you have quite an album full.

Right you are. They go with the Belgian (and Swedish) railway stamps! A place for everything.

And another- this one I suspect Bavaria, and what (I find) interesting is the winged wheel which is the same "artwork/design" used on some Belgian railway stamps- the question is who copied who?? (I have a fondness for BoB stamps)

I see this stamp was included in a series posted back in 2013, but here's a single image that shows more detail Germany Railway : Preusz-Hess Staatseisenbahnen 5M here's another view with color manipulated to better show details
