Hello as in my title I'm Kyle new to this board and stamp collecting altogether. The reason I got into collecting recently i suppose it's because I'm like the dog from the movie "UP" "squirrel" and run off in the direction and it seems interesting and extremely confusing at times but that's the fun in things is learning about and finding new things in the subject at hand. Anyway when googling this forum popped up a lot so I read some post and figured it would be a good resource for learning and it's so much better if you can get a person's input in near real time then hoping to find it in a search especially if you have no idea what it is you're trying to search in the first place. Anyway long intro post but thanks for having me.

Hi Kyle, welcome! Where is home for you? There are lots of friendly people here, so don't be shy about sharing what is interesting to you, where you're confused, and so on. One thing I love about this place is folks share parts of their collections. And the more I see what / how people collect, the more I learn about them. So dig into the forums -- no matter where in the world you look, there are likely stamps from that place posted here.

madbaker I'm from San Diego California. Yourself? Hi Kyle - I'm from the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada but I live out on Vancouver Island now. So just up the highway (and a ferry) from you.
Re: how long have I been collecting? I'm new at this; not even 30 years yet.
I had a kid's collection that I re-discovered around the time my son was born in 1995 and my golfing time was restricted. A couple decades of practice and study and I now have a larger kid's collection.

madbaker oh nice have to love those kid collections that become bigger kid collections lol. I wish I had the thought process as a kid to save like my X-Men cards and POGS but it's tough as a kid because you just want to play with your new stuff lol.

rod222 bird eggs and newts? Are those the stamps you collect? No sorry, that's what I collected before postage stamps, swapped birds eggs (empty) with school mates, and collected swamp newts in an old claw footed bath, in the garden ( I had an "armada" of newts) Cannot recall where I got my first stamps, I do recall, however, taking a blue Senegal stamp, with a bull vignette off a page and the blighter ripped in half, I was mortified. No I do not collect herpetology

@rob222 oh ok haha.
Newts now those are interesting aren't they I believe they are the only animal able to fully grow back it's limbs if removed from a predator or something, that alone is extremely fascinating but not quit as cool as the immortal jellyfish now that thing has crazy powers as well. I used to catch crawdads that's was fun at the time.

Hi Kyle. My name is Nick and I live in a bedroom burg of Austin, Texas. Welcome to this awesome forum. The thing I love about this forum is you will not find any critics about the way you collect or what your stamp collection focuses on. If you have any question, want to look for a trading partner(s), or ask general question, this is the place where you will find a lot of support. Jump in any time and see how we all enjoy collecting. Looking forward to hearing from you. Nick
