I started collecting stamps as a kid in the 1960s. Then I inherited a large stamp collection in the 90s which languished in a closet for a long time. When Covid kicked in, I decided to catalog the entire collection which reinvigorated my interest in stamp collecting. I collect worldwide and haven’t really focused on a specialty yet. I’ve found the Stamp Forum to be a great resource and am looking forward to making connections on the Forum.

As a dedicated worldwide collector, I can say there's an enormous amount of enjoyment to be had just hopping from country to country. I admire the specialists and their ability to focus more narrowly, but that type of collecting would not suit me very well. Plus the more detailed level of knowledge is an aid in finding varieties which will never be listed in more general, simplified world catalogues like those from Scott and Gibbons.
Even if you do one day choose a specialty, I'd encourage you to keep the world collection as a way to relax and have fun when the more detailed work begins to weigh heavily.
