rod222 yea I went through that site and the details and to be honest it's hard for me to determine because there could be my own biases creeping in when trying to look at the details on each, also I dont have a perfgauge or a way to check watermarks at the moment so I'm screwed on those 2 details at the moment so hopefully I can get that taken care of soon and thank you for the reply and link I really appreciate it. angore thanks for that link as well that's a great site as well. I guess I can take it to someone and see for sure. Thanks again to the both of you for the replies

Perf guage and watermarking, may be your next step, both are not that expensive, and lots of fun.

asmodeus eBay should have both, unless you live in the EU which has banned the transport of the chemicals used in Watermark fluid and as a result dealers can not sell it. Heptane works as a substitute for watermark fluid, just use in a well ventilated area and far away from flame.

rod222 is there website you would suggest to get the gauge and watermark stuff? asmodeus No, sorry, there are a wide range of perf guages available, some (like Canada) are very specialised.
For a beginner (and what I employ) are the following , I would recommend.
1. Stanley Gibbons "Instanta" guage probably ebay? about $14 ?
Lovely "sliding scale" guage, you just line up the first "tooth" of your stamp, and the LAST tooth, check the teeth match in all the teeth in the middle, and Bingo! you have a perfect guaging. (This takes into account, any wobbly perf pin placements)
I don't guage by the holes, I see beginners making mistakes all the time doing that, use the teeth, match those suckers up!
Warning! Keep the guage vertical to the stamp, a wobbly guage, slanting to the stamp, can cause a bad reading.
2. I use Tobacconists "lighter Fluid" for wwatermarking (about $5) when you can get it, Australia has stopped sales in most deli's (kids abuse?)
I prefer "RONSONOL" but only can get ZIPPO right now.
(Hint I have an image of a stamp dealer, using RONSONOL to watermark a supposed $100,000 stamp.) so it can't be that bad?
