I have a 2012 US Specialized catalog. With modern printing techniques and the USPS now no longer using multiple printers that generate unique major catalog numbers for their print runs, I wonder whether there is any value in buying a 2024 US Specialized catalog.
My initial thought was that I would update once a decade, and just buy the Scott Catalog Pages from CHIROKMD every other year.
I'm also not a fan of paying $104 for the US Specialized, and it's not a hardback book.

I, like you, find the costs of catalogues pretty steep considering all the adverts in them. I will use my old specialized, and spend my hard earned money on stamps.

If you get a subscription to Scott Stamp Monthly you get access to issue archives which go back to I think 2010, so any new issues post-2012 would be in there and the US updates are for the Specialized catalogue new issue listings. So save money use Scott Stamp Monthly archives with your subscription for issues after your 2012 came out.

I never use Scott catalogs for stamp values. I don't think I have even checked once in the last 10 years what a stamp is worth. I've been using Virtual Stamp Club to get my Scott numbers. Might be worth it to just maintain my own list of numbers from 2012 onward.
I find any Scott Catalog a huge PITA to use. When the USPS issues a new variety of an older stamp, Scott lists it with the old issue as a new variety. So, it's impossible to look at a certain year in a Scott catalog and see all stamps issued that year.

Yep. To find out about the newly listings added in the prior listings you have to read the summary of changes page that lists added catalog numbers. It is usually suffixes but sometimes there is some renumbering.

That means you need to buy the catalog yearly, unless the summary of changes goes back a few years.

Andy there are some members that would likely give you screen shot of the specific pages under fair use. The Scott Pocket sized catalog now is formatted like the larger editions rather than the pure checklist format of the past. I do not collect modern US unless given to me after 2017. Self-adhesvies annoy me and do not like buying complete sheets but I did try.

I think I am just going to use online sources to get US catalog numbers from 2012 on. I only collect Scott major catalog numbers for US. For Ukraine, I use MICHEL and for Ireland I use Stanley Gibbons.
