I found this stamp in a 1962 Scott Specialized Catalog for Germany - listed next to #177 the 2 Mark violet and rose with network (126) watermark. This stamp was listed as a 2 Mark Deep Violet with network watermark, but I cannot find it listed in any catalog. Does anyone know anything about this - does it have a Scott catalogue. Does it have any value. I am stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - Jeff

185 is marked as blue violet. The Scott Album distinctly says Deep Violet. I know they may have changed the description but is that the case? I have the same deal with the stamp next to #183 the brown and yellow. The next one in the album is listed as Deep Brown. If I follow your logic that would bring me to #192 but that is listed in the book as purple brown. - Now this is not fair. I am color blind as it is and fiddling around the color descriptions does not help. Is that what the Scott Catalog (because both of the catalogues are from Scott) did to me?

No idea. I don't use Scott.
But there was only one version of this design that was printed in a single color, and that's Sc. 185. The remaining versions (Sc. 150, 177) are two color.

randyharper, jeff In Michel specialized for this stamp, 3 colors with new names are mentioned. The old names also appear in parentheses...including bluish-violet. I suspect that in your Scott album there is only one position for this stamp. For example, the 50 Mark stamp is mentioned in Michel as plate print and rotation print (2 colors).

so this was my problem, you have the picture of the stamp that I was questioning above and here is the page from the 1962 Scott Specialized Catalog showing a color of DEEP VIOLET which I could not find anywhere. I think we decided it should be Scott #185 blue violet because I could find no reference to a deep violet anywhere and it is definitely NETWORK watermark. Rod I think I confused everything when I had a second stamp and you were right I should have stated #191 that I was referencing that was the 20M. I figured out where that went, but the color mystery remains. Scott probably just changed the color description between 1962 and 2022 catalogs. I appreciate everyone's help and if anyone should have any further ideas ----- I'm listening

randyharperThe stamp is Scott 185 or Michel 224. In the Michel catalog, 3 color variations are mentioned for this stamp (I'm trying to translate the color names in parentheses - see the catalog page) a = bluish violet aa = deep purple violet b = deep violet Probably the Scott catalog took over a color and the Scott album a different color from the 3 existing ones for this stamp.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50
