Hello Everyone:
I was a very big collector when I was younger until I got to college. Then I did it when I could, but did drift away. I got back into collecting about 5 years ago, after 10 to 15 years away, but not as actively as I was.
Last year I introduced my 2 Daughters to the world of Stamps. One was 14 and the other was 18. They are both interested in the hobby and enjoy sorting new stamps. learning about the world in general, and also enjoy finding new areas on the globe.
Now about me and why I am here. I had a friend who was a missionary priest in Japan, and he was a very big stamp collector of world stamps. He was the one who taught me how to expand our small family collection. And when he came back to Canada, he would always bring me some used stamps from Japan and the region. He was also the one who helped me to learn how to save the stamps properly, and how to retrieve used stamps.
My main interests have always been Canada, the United States and Japan. But my collection also includes stamps of the world. I also have a side interest in the topics of Olympic stamps and old trains.
My current goals are to get my kids more interested in the hobby and to make some new unique albums.
I recently got a box of world stamps from a Facebook auction, and there are several stamps with perforations letters etc, so they have piqued my interest in them.
I am joining as a place of information to questions I may get.
Thank you.

I also collect Japan - aren’t they beautiful? I’m sending you a private message as I may be able to send a few to you - watch for a message flag on the nav bar, ok?
Happy stamping!

to TSF! You've come to the right place. Getting the younger generation interested in the hobby is a challenge many of us face. Glad to see that you had some success!

The “stamps with perforation letters” we know as PERFINS. (Perforated initials) are fun to collect and research. They were punched that way as security by companies , businesses and Government departments to prevent employees sneakily using company stamps on personal mail. Some are common eg OHMS , Many are readable and easily recognised, eg “Ford”, some can be found by researching lists or asking here, some indeed are still unidentified!
