G'day Catweazle So nice to have you come and join us on TSF. I have followed your thread on the Chatham Islands on SB since you began it, but I haven't participated there since 2020 for the usual reason !! I see you showed my Chalon with the 'X' obliterator there and asked about it there with no response. Perhaps you can start a thread here under New Zealand, perhaps call it something like 'New Zealand: Chatham Islands Discussion' or similar. I don't collect Greenland but do collect NZ and AU & States amongst other things. Looking forward very much to your contributions NB Don't forget to bring your avatar over from SB and use it to edit it in your profile here! Dave

Dave, what's your opinion about the 'X' obliterator? Were such markings used throughout NZ around that time by a number of different post offices, or is it rather more unique?
(For those who have no clue what we're talking about, I'll upload a picture on a new thread in due course...)

It is definitely the 'X' obliterator used on the Chathams in the correct time period. But let's chat more about that in the new 'Chatham Islands' thread when you start it.
Good to have you here.

Welcome to the Forum!
My first thought upon reading your thread title was “spreading your wings” OR flying away, seeking more pleasant skies? Be assured, this is a delightful online philatelic sanctuary stressing camaraderie, inclusiveness and kindness.
Just curious - how did you find us?

Welcome to the Forum! My first thought upon reading your thread title was “spreading your wings” OR flying away, seeking more pleasant skies? Be assured, this is a delightful online philatelic sanctuary stressing camaraderie, inclusiveness and kindness. Just curious - how did you find us? Via Google. Was researching Chatham Islands – my current crazed niche where most of my time and energy has been pouring – and landed on a page here.
'tis a small world, after all! 🎶

Yes, well there is some tongue in cheek there, phildug because Dumbledore is not Catweazle but whatever. As Gandalf says, " use the force, Harry!"
