Original Thread Title: Color Study of Finland #78, 1911 Coat of Arms Russian DesignThread title was changed on 20-Jul-2024 to accommodate posts from other color studies of classic Finland that were added to the thread.
From my collection; Color varieties of Scott #78, LaPe62A, Facit 63. All perforation 14x14. Exists perforation 14 1/4 x 14 3/4. This is an inexpensive stamp, so multiples are fairly easy to find. That yellowish green sticks out like a sore thumb, does’t it?

Nice blocks you have there!
I am also trying to define colors of old Finnish stamps, at the moment the 20 penni ultramarine from 1875, in all its glory. I acquired Facit Special Classic 2024 and it lists as color varieties, lo and behold: - blue - green blue - dark green blue - bluish green - dull blue - greenish blue - dull grayish blue - bright greenish blue - gray blue - blue gray - ultramarine - ultramarine blue - deep ultramarine - grayish ultramarine - light ultramarine - bright ultramarine - dark ultramarine - gray ultramarine
I mean, "insane" doesn't sum it quite up... I start to understand that the colors are not meant to be a handle for identification. So then what is?

Wow! There was a ton of variability in the inks used, and numerous printings were made but double ! WOW ! that’s a huge number of color variants! I haven’t started studying those yet. To me it is easier to differentiate colors when I have a generous quantity to compare. Here are pics of my raggedy copies - just stuck on stock pages awaiting a bath to remove old hinges and then get some attention. The difference in the SIZE of these is rather dramatic, too. Look on row three …

That's a nice set as well! And indeed it shows a wild color variety. It seems there is one major source that can be used to identify the printings of this 20p stamp, and Jay Smith sells it: Finland: The Color & Printing Identification of the 1875 Issues
