What I collect: Germany in all its facets since 1871 (especially German Reich used including postal statinoneries, used), USSR, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Denmark, France. I design all album pages for my collection myself and partly make them available to the general public for use.

Since I haven't found an original thread for my question, I'll start a new one: I found an offer on ebay (and identical hipstamp) for the Canal Zone Panama Scott # 57b. They are offering a pair of # 57 where the left stamp has no "canal zone" overprint. There are said to be only 10 (known) examples of this, the price is 1,624.99 $. I have learned that one should be careful with the Panama overprints, as there are probably some forgeries of these, not least by Fournier. I have now also taken the picture of a "normal" Scott #57 and compared the overprints. The overprint on the offer for #57b seems to me to be quite different to that of the "normal" # 57, just regarding at the distance between N and E in zone. The serifs of the E at least at a second glance also give the impression that the two imprints are not really identical.
Does anyone here in the forum have any advice as to whether it would be worth buying this #57b? Perhaps these differences are within the usual limits.

And then I found a picture of another overprint stamp from the Canal zone, where the overprint looks even different from the two examples in the first post of this thread. (especially the "E" in ZONE). I am confused...

I wouldn't spend that amount of money unless the item had been certified genuine. If you are interested in acquiring it, why not contact the seller to see if he will refund the purchase price and pay the expertization fee if the pair isn't deemed genuine.

Many thanks gstamps for this link. It really is a difficult collecting area...
