Folks:
In a collection that I acquired there were a large number of sets put together by a company, not the collector, encased in nicely printed vinyl albums and often gussied up with information or other materials. Some of them seemed to me to be more useful for making money than for adding to a collection! For example, a set of 50 envelopes all with the same stamp but each affixed to an envelope decorated to highlight a different state. What does that add to a collection? Other such sets are more interesting. For instance, a set of envelopes where each is printed with information about an important development in the lead up to and through the course of the US Constitution, each postmarked exactly 200 years later to the day in the city where the event took place and with a relevant older stamp.
Two questions:
1. How much do you value these sorts of sets? If you like them, what do you like?
2. What do you do with these sets? Do you remove them from their customized album and fold them into your main collection of first day issues, or keep them as is?

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Personally I value them very little. They are similar to Franklin Mint collectable plates. Having been a collectables and antiques dealer for a few decades my view is rather jaded. In my early years as a dealer I bought anything that looked like it might sell. I soon learned that this prepackaged stuff was pretty well worthless on the resale market. To each their own. Post office issued items are a bit better but still a hard sell. The ones you described msindc are best left intact. Once a few are removed they are like something being broken.
