Apologies if someone else started a thread on this -- I looked and I searched and I didn't see anything... So, it's been a week since it launched. I'm curious, who here has read the first edition of the APS digital magazine StampEd? Did you enjoy it? I thought it was really decent. I enjoyed the articles and liked the how unusual takes on collecting stood on even ground with traditional articles about stamps shows, etc.
I was surprised at how many folks took out advertisements in the first issue. Lots of regular ads for rarities and auctions, etc. I'm curious whether over time the ads change as folks figure out who is reading StampEd vs the AP.
I was a little worried about this magazine; worried that it might be cringey if the articles are written by old folks trying to sound like young folks. I shouldn't have worried - they even called it out in one article.
The net result for me was there aren't any articles that would be out of place in the main AP magazine, yet taken as a group it's clear they are targeting a different audience -- a different target but with plenty of potential overlap.
I'm thrilled that there's something different being published in the stamp arena that is also geared for adults. Very fresh and very welcome. I'm already looking forward to the next issue.
PS - My only peeve is that, as a digital magazine, I don't understand why they stayed with a two column layout. Why have to scroll up and down as you read? I can't imagine they are expecting people to print it out.
And yet, as I looked closely, they seem to break things up with pictures and sidebars in the second column so there isn't as much scrolling as a more text heavy PDF journal. So perhaps this is a decent compromise.

I have only skimmed it but I find many articles would (should) just as be appropriate in the AP that often features so much postal history.

I got to read it yesterday and found it enjoyable.. The articles are written on the light side and often written directly to the reader. As I posted earlier, many could be in the AP and are more like the department articles (messages from President, ED, Editor, etc).
The article on counterfeit stamps fails to mention you can buy genuine US stamps for less than face value and will pay even less.
