Folks,
The US 751 is the 1934 Farley exhibition sheet of six Yosemite stamps. You probably recall that there is text placed in the outside margins of the stamps.
The US 751a is one imperf Yosemite stamp.
Question: Is the 751a in fact nothing more than one of the stamps cut out of the 751? Or was there a separate release of the single stamp?
And if the 751a is just cut from the exhibition block, then why does it get its own number instead of just letting it be part of 751?

There is the Yosemite 1c Perfed Scott 740 Then the sheet of 6 Sc# 751 With Scott, it is a natural progression, to identify a single cut from an imperf sheet, hence 751a They attract a different price. And........need to be identified against the 1935 Yosemite cut from the "special printing" sheet Again a different value. Sc# 769a Happy to be corrected by US specialists Sc# 751 and #751a Sc# 740 Sc#751 Sc#769a Identification of the special printings, is the wide selvedge (gutter)

And if the 751a is just cut from the exhibition block, then why does it get its own number instead of just letting it be part of 751? #751 is for the entire intact souvenir sheet. #751a is for a single cut from that sheet. Note that once separated, #751a and #769a are indistinguishable without the presence of an extended/wide gutter area available for #769a (which is why they tend to be collected as gutter pairs rather than singles). Rod already answered your question about the separate perforated stamp issued in full sized panes.
