Mr Don Denman, aka 51Studebaker, passed on this past Sunday. He was truly a pillar of the online stamp community and will be missed by the entire philatelic world. He will however, live on in his wonderful website, stampsmarter.org. Sorely missed.

Very sad news. Despite his health issues, he continued to work hard for stamp collectors online. His contributions to online philately are greatly appreciated and will not disappear thanks to his diligence and that of others collaborating with him! My condolences to his family.

I didn't know of Mr. Denman until I saw the video that philatelia posted. The video is very informative, and I now have Mr. Denman's Stamp Smarter site in my folder. Rest in peace.

I was not aware of the website so I googled it, when accessing, I get this warning from my browser: Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to www.stampsmarter.com. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details. What can you do about it? The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it. You can notify the website’s administrator about the problem. Anyone else experiencing this?

How sad. rod222 thanks for drawing our attention to the news. Don was a tireless supporter of all things philatelic as evidenced by the Stamp Smarter site. Despite enormous health issues he managed put in an enormous amount of effort as moderator of the Stamp Community Forum in addition to developing and maintaining Stamp Smarter.

He helped me often on different forums when I needed help with my USA stamps. He also directed me to his website stampsmarter which I still use. Condolences to his family. RIP Don!

Very sad news. He was a stalwart in the online forums and always seemed to bring some reasonableness to discussions when folks started flying off. He will be missed.

I only had a small number of interactions with Don since I got back into stamping in 2018. Much of what he collected is well outside my area of interest, but I did enjoy the fact he maintained a worldwide collection for fun. Don would often mention "entertainment factor" as a way to gauge the value of potential purchases. This is something I have tried to take to heart in my own collecting, although not always being successful.
He will be missed.

Was out of touch of TSF for nearly 2 years. Yesterday got an e-mail about this sad news. Don and I first came to know each other back in 2013 and quickly gelled well. I helped in a small way when Don was building his SS site.
Posting couple of photos of serene countryside near Hendersonville, North Carolina that Don shared with me. Feeling very sad. May God rest his soul. 😞

Hello all, Thank you all for your many kind words about Don Denman and his Stamp Smarter website. The philatelic community has one less shining star now. The earlier post about the security message for www.stampsmarter.com was correct, because that website is obsolete. (I see there was an early correction that I missed. Sorry!) Don replaced it about two years with www.stampsmarter.org. He had a redirection on the original site until the domain registration expired, and he no longer owns that domain. Earlier this Don and several other supporters created the Stamp Smarter Foundation, a IRS approved 501(c)3 non-profit, tax exempt educational foundation, with the intent to create a plan for the long term survival of the Stamp Smarter website. Don's untimely death came before we could put many of those survival features into practice, but we still plan to keep the website up and running. I am a member of their Board, and for the present, their communications person. We expect the website will remain relatively static for the remainder of the coming year as we get involved with the internal details of operation, and figure out how to replace Don's design and implementation skill. Don was a moderator on a related forum, Stamp Community Family. I will not post a link here, as I am not familiar with all of the rules. However I imagine many of you visit there as well. I plan to continue to communicate the Foundation's plans and activities there as we make decisions. I will try to replicate that information here, but my time is going to be limited for the immediate future. Mike Ludeman Director, Stamp Smarter Foundation, Inc.
