To say I am littler anal retentive when it comes to the look of my stamp album pages may be somewhat of an understatement. With my Lexend design I was tinkering with a few things.
These pages are completely black and white, so I did the following.
- When I exported the pages to PDF from Scribus, instead of "Printer" as the output type, I chose "Greyscale." The made the file completely black and white and also cut the file size in half.
- When I printed the file, I turned off the "Print in Color" settings in my printer driver. This makes the printer ONLY use the black ink/toner.
When I did this, the output looked a lot nicer. The text looked crisper and cleaner, and the black was a nice dark black color.
So, if your pages are black and white, turn off "Print in Color" and see if you see a difference on the output.

I have always used the printer driver grey scale when printing even if there is no color. Why not direct print from app rather than add PDF step. . I realize you have to create PDFs for posting. When I make modifications to PDFs in LibreOffice Draw I just print from Draw and not create a new PDF.

It may just be placebo effect, but it fell to me like things look better. I could be wrong.
Using the greyscale setting in the driver definitely makes a difference. All the blacks are much darker.

That is my thinking (cannot confirm but playing it safe) on why I always print greyscale on my color laser even if the page supposedly has no color such as Steiner PDFs. Also, my HP color laser color use counter it seems to record color use on grayscale printings. I rarely print color as of late yet I seem to be depleting my color supplies!! It has constantly reminded me i have been low on color toner for over 2 years! Unlike my dad's HP inkjet, it has not refused to print.

I've experienced a similar thing in the past. The root cause was the printer needed an internal cleaning.

This subject was addressed some time ago which I took to heart and read the printer instructions. It worked great, no more kinda black text.
